RAINBOW OUTFIT FOR A SPECIAL TODDLER

Edited on Canva

I was anxious about the duration of the last contest of Needlework Community and was thinking that I still have more time left to do my entry. I thought that after doing another set of the commissioned project, I can still figure out what will be my final entry. But I am thinking of something that is related to RAINBOW.

I'm thinking of a rainbow-colored umbrella or a rainbow-colored cardigan in a mini size so my barbie doll could model it for me. But sadly, when I decided to check back the post of the contest, I was shocked that there were 2-3 hours left before the deadline. I got so busy with the past weeks doing two rush orders that I haven't visited hive for a long time. I also got sick after depriving myself to sleep more and resting my body after long hours of crocheting. Unfortunately, I couldn't do anything now. The contest had ended and sadly I haven't presented my entry.

But somehow I need to share with you this beautiful rainbow-inspired crochet set for a toddler. This was one of the rush orders that I did last month. And will show you how to make this top.

Materials

I just used a 2.5 mm crochet hook, different yarn colors that comprised the rainbow (I used spun polyester in 8ply), and a cutter.

I was thankful that I have all the needed colors for the rainbow-inspired top and that I don't need to order online which will be a big problem as I have only 5 days to complete the outfit.

Procedure

Using the color white yarn, I begin with a magic circle, making double crochets forming 2 layers of a semi-circle shape. After that, I continued on the 3rd and 4th layer using the purple yarn color.

I used blue yarn color on the 5th and 6th layer while on the 7th and 8th layer, I used the green one.

Please note that as I was working on the layers, I made sure to increase the number of double crochets to achieve that look. I didn't use any pattern here, just my fave technique which is the "trial-and-error" technique. 😅

Well, actually, I find it easier and more effective to construct my own pattern and test for myself than consume my time looking for a specific pattern. And this attitude of relying only on myself for the pattern really helps me figure out my own pattern just by staring at the crochet item in a picture.

Layer 9 and 10 is the color yellow while layer 11-12 is the orange color.

And lastly, the red color, which is the final color of our rainbow.

Now, our rainbow was done and it's time to make it as our crop top for our cute toddler. All we have to do is to add a 2-layer white colored double crochet and some layers at the neck area to look like a haltered top. I also made double crochet back loop on the bottom part of our rainbow. To make it more attractive, I made some tassels on both ends of our ties.

What color of a leather tag suits the top?

At first, I used the gold color "handmade" tag but after showing this to my customer, she asked me to change it to the color white tag.

The whole process took me whole day, as I was excited to finish the top.

The next thing I did, was the bottom pants. I decided to make the circles separately and sew them on the pants.

The whole outfit took me 5 days to finish as I was occupied with other stuff also. I was happy with the result and that the customer appreciated it much.

Hope you like what I share with you this day and wanted to greet everyone, with a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Yours truly,
@jonalyn2020

Absolutely gorgeous Jonalyn ❣️. I'm sorry you didn't arrive on time for the contest, but it's good that you still showed up to show us a great project like this. The leather labels look very nice, although like your client, I also think that it looks better in white. This is so as not to interfere with the design of the garment. And those pants, they are so beautiful, they have a lot of style.

I wish you a good new year. Greetings ❣️!

Thank you very much Laura. 🥰 And happy new year too.

Yes, the white tag suits well on this outfit. And good thing I showed it first before sending it to the client.

When I grow up I want to crochet just like you! 😃☺️

You are such an inspiration to me. Not only the beauty of your stitches but the boldness and confidence to create your own designs as you go along. You really do amazing work lady. I absolutely love this little outfit. The pants are just too darn cute.

I love the addition of the tags. I look forward to adding custom tags to my orders as well.

So sorry you missed the contest deadline but I am so glad you shared this with us. Stay tuned next week for the announcement of our next challenge. I think everyone will enjoy this one ~ 😉

Nah, you can always do what I can do.🥰 There is nothing special with the stitches and anyone can copy it. But practice really makes perfect. 😅

The tags will definitely bring your project to the next level.

Looking forward to the next contest. I will make sure next time I can join. 🥰

Yes, I guess we need more time to do some stuff that we love to do, or something that we want to try doing but the days seems so fast that the whole day is like a few hours only. Like, we celebrated new year just like yesterday and now it's already Jan 5 here. 😅

Anyway, I feel excited with what you will announce. But I'm hoping that during that time, I'm done with all the orders, as I have 4 flower bouquets to make this week. 😅 But definitely, I will be sharing it here soon.

I know! I can’t believe it’s about to be the 5th already for us too!

I really hope you can join this next round (with this particular one everyone should be able to…hint hint 😁) and I’m curious to see those bouquets!

Thank you so much Monica. 🥰 I'm just wondering if we can put other shapes like triangular and rectangle in different colors. I'd like to try that hopefully in the future.
Happy new year to you and your fam. 🥰
