Interesting and multi-coloured stalls filled with different items and food for sale at the “Tabo sa Kapitolyo 2022”!

Tabo is a Cebuano-Visayan term for market, and Kapitolyo is the Cebuano term of the Provincial Capitol. The Cebu province is celebrating its founding anniversary this August thus the varied activities in line this month, including this pop-up marketplace.

The different municipalities of the island are invited for this “fair” and they bring with them their best crops and/or delicacies. On the photos for today’s post you see the corn-filled stall of Asturias municipality. They offer fresh produce from the local farms. Another is the brightly painted ‘bilaos’ designed on the stall of the city of Toldeo, with a fresh banana shrub built on the makeshift store.

The municipality of Consolacion has been designed with native ‘banig’ and Pinoy hats made of the same material. Their stall looks quite festive, don’t you think? Then there is the creatively designed stall of Barili – I love how they have formed letterings out of wooden sticks, and placed crops as accents. Next you can see “Alcoy” with an image of a black bird, the siloy. Siloy is black bird native to the municipality of Alcoy.

Daanbantayan shows off with very colorful fruits, vegetables and crops as the design – these are much abundant in their small town. Lastly the brown hues of “Ronda” which highlights coconut husks – coconuts are massively available in their place. Can we also appreciate how wickedly talented are they for being able to form carabao (with its horns and lazy eyes) out of coco husks?!

Stay tuned for part two of this blog as we explore more of this pop-up market!

I love the festive mood of your place... and am amazed by the creativity use of indigenous materials in decorating those stalls :)
