Hello Sports, this humble server is @jonsnow1983 and today we're going to disclose some intriguing and important news regarding the Steem blockchain. Before starting with the massacre, let's get a little bit of music to our delicate ears. Introducing the lovely Britney Spears!

Source

"Oops, I did it again
I played with your heart, got lost in the game
Oh baby, baby
Oops, you think I'm in love
That I'm sent from above
I'm not that innocent!"

Thanks Britney! Let's give her a round of applause as we go straight to the damn news which is what it really concern us. One of the main reasons I use Twitter a lot is that there are a lot of Hivers non stoppingly sharing important news about our ecosystem, and what's going on in general.

Witnesses on #Steem are preparing a hardfork 23 that will go live in the next 3 days. The code is NOT available for review.

I have contacted exchanges to warn them and ask what the code changes involved. Appears the powerdown time will be reduced from 13 weeks to 4 weeks

According to an Andrew Chaney's (@netuoso) source, Steem is going to hardfork in the next 3 days. It seems this news caught some users by surprise and some others are not that surprised given Justin's well known reputation among hivers.

The most remarkable and only known change this hardfork (23) is about to feature is the drastic change on powerdown's time. Allegedly from 13 weeks to just 4 weeks.

.. code change on an open source blockchain network?

Exchanges that are supporting Steem and their private, closed source fork, are directly going against the true meaning of DPoS. There is no chance for users to make an informed voting decision when the code changes remain ..

It seems that the seed nodes are going to face some changes, too. In @netuoso's opinion some exchangers are aware of the changes. It is a "known secret" that Sun's relations with some exchanger's owners or CEOs are once again coming into his favor. Did the Steem community know about this allegedly upcoming changes? If I can accurately recall, there is "steemnews or steemitblog" who is in charge to come up with the news regarding upcoming forks and their nature. Has the Steem community received any formal or informal information about these updates?

What is more concerning is that the code hasn't been reviewed, says the source. This is highly concerning for a blockchain which it's main goal is/was to defend the values of DPoS.

The currently displayed activation time. This could always change, but since SteemIt/Tron has already contacted exchanges, it may stay at this time. pic.twitter.com/aXAd3YNbnT

As it was stated, it seems they have planned to launch the fork whithin 3 days. There are some unknowns the steem community and maybe hivers holdig steem or powering down should ask themselves though. One of the most remarkable features the Steem blockchain and Hive share is that they're open source and the code was always reviewed it before forks. Is the Steem community aware of these changes? If so. Do they know or were they informed that the code is going to be close source? What impact it may have on the chain? Could it be beneficial for those who are powering down and with plans of completely leaving the chain? Do the exchangers agree with the nature of this fork or ar they going to turn eye again? Ala Justin, all seems pretty much controversial. Amanacerá y veremos!

STE.... I MEAN HIVE ON!
