Japan's SLIM mission

Japan's SLIM mission.

There is good news about the Japanese ship, remember that it managed to land on the moon on January 20, but it did so in a slightly strange way, it was left lying down, on January 25 one of the mini rovers that the ship carried managed to take this photo of the Slim; This is not the position it should be in since in this lying position the solar panels do not receive sunlight well and therefore cannot generate energy.

But the mission experts were confident that as the sun moved during the long lunar day that lasts about 29 days, the light would end up reaching the solar panels and thus could begin to capture energy and that is what has happened, That is why we must trust the experts.

Last Sunday, January 28, the SLIM module already had enough energy to be able to contact the control center on Earth and launch all scientific operations. Another success noted in The Japanese is that the ship achieved one of its objectives to make a precision landing.

Perhaps we are used to seeing the landings of SpaceX rockets here on Earth on a ship, but on the moon that degree of precision is today a dream, ships on the moon can land hundreds of meters or even kilometers away. from the desired location and that is a very big problem if you want to establish a base on the moon, because it would force the astronauts to travel hundreds of meters to go collect the supplies that arrive from Earth.

Perhaps also having to cross dangerous terrain complicated with cracks and ravines, the SLIM had as its objective a target of 100 m in diameter and managed to land just 55 meters from the center of the target, it is a record at least until now, Thanks to this mission, Japan became the fifth nation to send a spacecraft to the lunar surface after the Soviet Union, the United States, China and India.
