Strong explosion of Helium 3 from our Sun

Strong explosion of Helium 3 from our Sun

Souce

On December 9, the Southwest Research Institute (SWRI) published a statement saying that its scientists had detected something quite strange, the image shown points to a bright point that, although it is a point, is almost the size of the Earth, we are looking at the Sun, that bright point is a quite rare, very rare expulsion of material.

The solar wind expels Helium 3 which is an isotope of Helium and in this case and at that point it expelled an enormous concentration, with an enormous density, the image is an extreme ultraviolet image from the solar dynamics observatory, it looks pink because it depends on the filters and sometimes it looks green, it also depends on the observatory that is doing it and the blue arrow marks that bright point on the edge of a coronal hole which is where the Helium 3 burst came from.

Helium 3 is very rare, because it is an isotope that does not exist on Earth, although it can be found in large quantities on the surface of the Moon, the surface of Mercury and the surface of asteroids and the reason is that helium 3 is produced by the sun and although it is generously given away within the entire package that it expels from the solar wind, it turns out that the protective magnetic field of the Earth does its job of protecting the Earth and rejects Helium 3 and all the material that comes with the solar wind.

And by doing this shield work it means that we do not have 3 on Earth, something that does not happen either on the Moon or on Mercury or on asteroids. This recorded event is very rare, since it multiplied by 200,000 times the amount of helium 3 that the sun normally expels. Furthermore, its great abundance is like a kind of engine because it accelerates other heavier elements that also exist in the sun and come out with it. In fact, they also captured a great abundance of elements in addition to iron, which is not usually usual, at least in these percentages.

Apparently there was also a large amount of carbon, nitrogen, silicon and sulfur in this expulsion. To show you how rare this event has been, scientists have observed only 19 similar events in the last 25 years and they literally mentioned in the press release "that this highlights the rarity and disconcerting nature of this phenomenon" in the words of the researchers.

Helium 3, in addition to being so rare here on Earth, is one of the key elements of one of the recipes to obtain fusion energy, that is, joining atoms to obtain energy instead of dividing them, which is what we currently do in all nuclear power plants, what the sun does is fuse hydrogen like most stars and from that fusion we obtain helium, what happens is that when it reaches a more mature age and begins to run out of hydrogen, it will begin to fuse helium and then fuse other elements to produce heavier elements, in the end it will end up producing iron, in the sun it has not only captured the hydrogen it contains, all the materials have fallen there, it has also swallowed entire planets in the past so there are a lot of elements of all kinds and surely in the Sun there will be more gold than in the entire solar system and more of everything than on any planet in the solar system what happens is that the most abundant element is hydrogen.

Helium 3 usually appears in some science fiction films and series as the economic engine for the space activity of space mining, since with a very small amount of helium 3 in theory a gigantic amount of energy could be obtained, therefore, a small amount of helium 3 that you get from the moon would be profitable to extract from the moon, because it would be extremely valuable, it would make space mining profitable right now, for example, if helium 3 in the end turns out to be within the recipe to obtain energy from fusion, this is what Jared Isaacman says in New Administrator of NASA.

Advantages of helium 3; first; with the helium 3 recipe no radioactive waste is produced so it is quite clean, second, it is handled more easily than tritium, third, it is safer in case of an accident than tritium, tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, we have three different types of hydrogen, the ideal type that would already be the perfection of fusion energy, would be to unite normal hydrogen, fuse it like a star does, what happens is that with hydrogen we have not reached that level yet, we are at the level of achieve fusion energy, but with recipes using hydrogen isotopes, not the typical hydrogen, but isotopes or adding helium 3, in this way we achieve fusion energy.
