The largest scientific tool in the solar system.

The largest scientific tool in the solar system.

The scientific program committee of the European space agency ESA approved on January 25 the Lisa mission, acronym in English for space antenna with laser interferometer, it is the first scientific effort to detect and study gravitational waves from space and due to its amplitude we can say which will be the greatest tool that humanity has ever created to study the cosmos.

The elements that make up the Lisa are not large, they consist of three spacecraft, but the interesting thing is that they will be connected to work as a team from their position, each one separated by 2 and a half million kilometers, more than six times the distance that separates the Earth. of the moon.

They will form a triangle connected by laser rays that will act as a single gravitational wave observatory, hence the fact that it will be the largest instrument ever created, it will work with 3 key pieces that make up the system, they are what is shown above, they are these three solid gold cubes and platinum, each one in a ship.

Laser rays will be able to precisely measure the undulation of the fabric of spacetime caused by the passage of gravitational waves from events caused by large objects, such as supernova explosions, mergers of hyperdense stars and black holes, and perhaps some phenomenon that still exists. We don't know because whenever we have looked at the universe with different eyes we have discovered new things.

It happened when Galileo used lenses to create a telescope, he began to discover new moons, new stars, it happened with the invention of radio telescopes and also with the application of X-rays, capturing gravitational waves will be like having a new eye to see things that are not invisible now.

The bad thing is that we will have to wait, work will begin in January 2025 and the ships are expected to be launched if there is no delay in 2035 by means of an Arian 6 rocket.

The LISA project is led by the European space agency, but NASA and an international consortium of scientists also participate.
