The Younger Dryas Theory and Comet Impacts.

About 12,800 years ago a comet of several kilometers in diameter fragments as it approaches the earth, exploding fragments of the atmosphere, the largest of which would have impacted North America, this event would have calcined forests, killed a large part of the mega fauna and exterminated the Clovis culture of North America, being the trigger according to this theory of a sudden and strange cooling of the planet called The Younger Dryas or Young Dryas.

In recent years, evidence of events similar to that of the atacama that occurred 12,800 years ago has been found, in 2020 to cite one of the latest findings, a team of researchers at the University of California in Santa Barbara discovered the remains of the village of Abu Hureyra one of the first settlements in the history of mankind.

In this village the beginnings in the development of agriculture were beginning to take place, that village would have been the germ of one of the oldest civilizations of humanity, if it had not been destroyed radically and violently, in the place the researchers found glass melted at high temperatures and remains similar to what they found in Atacama and it is not the only case discovered throughout the planet, but you have to take into account one very important thing and that is that although there is evidence that shows the impacts, the hypothesis of the comet clovis is still a hypothesis because it is not clear that the impacts are related to a single comet, each one may be an individual case always between them and with differences of centuries between one and the other.

The dates are not completely exact, there is a margin of error, and the comet hypothesis is not the only candidate to explain the Younger Dryas phenomenon and the disappearance of the Clovis culture, in 2018 a team led by the University of Copenhagen published an investigation where he announced the discovery of a huge impact crater in Greenland measuring 31 kilometers in diameter, we could put the entire city of Paris inside.

It is believed that it was caused by an asteroid of at least 2 kilometers in diameter that impacted between 2,600 thousand years ago and 11,700 years ago, well the time margin is very large, the finding is recent and the investigations are going at their own pace, although the more data is get clearer it seems that the impact occurred only 12 thousand years ago.

From time to time, impacts similar to that of the Atacama occur in September of this year 2021.The same researchers from the University of California in Santa Barbara led by James Kennett published a study where they demonstrated that the ancient biblical city of Tall el-Hammam was destroyed some time ago. 3600 years for the explosion of an object in the atmosphere.

Researchers found clues similar to those found in the Atacama and in defended it as a result of an impact with an explosion in the air and the formation of a fireball at extreme temperatures.

We also cannot forget the case of the Tunguska fireball in Siberia Russia where an asteroid or perhaps a comet fragment, still debated, caused a huge explosion that devastated 2,150 square kilometers of forest on June 30, 1908, as did in the previous cases the object did not leave a crater, it exploded in the air.

And these are just some of the known cases, how often an event of this type occurs, we still do not have a statistic, but the technological improvements of recent years are allowing us to make new discoveries, the scars of the earth are being revealed and what that we are finding should serve as a warning, we do not know when the next asteroid or comet will arrive but there is no doubt that more will come.
