ENGLISH

Greetings Friends of Motherhood, today I write these lines about the responsibility of parents regarding their children's decisions.

source

I touch this topic in particular, because in social networks, we are flooded by videos in which parents seem to be supporting without questioning any idea that their children have, and although they seem very positive, it brings me important questions.

To what extent is one the parent of one's children? why do they want to be friends with their children instead of their parents?

In my life experience, working in an academic environment full of regulations that may or may not be appropriate to the current context (this in itself could be a separate topic of discussion) I have always noticed how there is a preference of young people to break the rules, as if these would not have any reason to be, (evidently the youth is questioning authority in an impetus to take control of their lives) and therefore the growth in popularity of those who go through it, in this case it could be teachers who overlook some rules, or students as has been a cliché in the teen movies and series we have seen since the 80s.

And of course those who are attached or oriented to the compliance of the rules are seen as negative people, in the case of movies they always turn out to be people full of resentment who use the rules to affect the protagonist, who always has a more compelling reason to break all the rules.

And while this may be real or not, (it all depends on the case) the point is that the breaking of the rules has been romanticized, and in this case I go to a more essential area, that of the family, like any social environment, the family is governed by a series of principles that can change from generation to generation, but what must be maintained is the principle of authority, which obviously must go from parents to children, as these in their greater life experience, and strength at the beginning, fulfill the function of protecting and educating children, (remember that the first and most important education we have at home).

Before the principle of authority was something very marked and that parents protected, having control and the last word in the decisions of the house, which being very rigid always generates roughness and can even break the relationship of love between parents and children, so many people talk about breaking the cycles making changes in the way of addressing the children, being closer, affectionate, and respecting their opinion.

From this last perspective, we modern parents have been encouraged to have a more equal relationship with our children, to listen to them and understand them, and we have even come to consider ourselves their friends, their best friends, because the idea is to generate a climate of trust in which they can tell us about their desires, projects and even their fears.

This is fine, but we must not forget that being friends with our children does not take away our responsibility as parents, because we have more experience, even though the world is changing, to be able to advise them and keep them away from dangers.

Now I have seen parents encouraging their children to make life choices regarding their tendencies and even their generation at very young ages, in which they could suddenly be influenced by external factors to make one or another decision, affecting them in ways even medical, at ages in which they should not be worried about these issues because in their parents should be the support to live their happy childhood without major problems.

source

In a way I see it as irresponsibility, because if any of these decisions go wrong the father would not have a responsibility because he is leaving the decision to the minor child, and this can then affect them for life, and even lose it.

I have read about cases in which the children find death in the same car that the father gave them, this in itself is not wrong because it seeks the comfort of the children, but you must have enough authority to mark the limits regarding the use of what is given to them, not to encourage them to continue with the bad things.

I have even read about parents who cover up for their children when they commit crimes, and cases in which groups of children, who lack nothing economically, commit atrocities, because their parents do not place limits on their actions, this reminds me of a song by the well-known singer Franco de Vita No Basta.

As parents, even if we want to be close to our children, there will always be the time to put correctives and exercise the authority that we should have as an example and the head of the family, to avoid having to regret future decisions, taken or allowed to be taken by being popular before our children rather than being Responsible.

In these situations we must remember a little of how things were before and put ourselves in the shoes of our parents, in my case I will always remember when I tried to question my dad, and he told me when you are older you will understand the reason for my decision.

source

Although my parents were not perfect, in my case they always took care of me, and thanks to them I got to have an adult and calm life, because it is important to make the difficult decision when it is the right one, for the welfare of our children.

Thank you very much for reading...

I live in a place where my parent are very strict, they are there because of the responsibility to be able to guide thier kids to do well in the community. it is not because they don't want to be friend with the kids, but what i see now in the younger generation where the parent is more to a friend than a parent is that they are losing respect from their kids.

Maybe there need of some improvement here and there to be able to balance things out.

but parenting is a hard job to do, and there is no clear rule to follow as the kids are different from one another.

It´s really hard, but sometimes we as parents need to stabish some rules and to make our children to follow them, so they can learn to be a better members of the community, thanks for reading!
