Splinterlands: The Cost-Entry Point Of Rebellion Vs CL

png_20231229_122835_0000.png

The Rebellion generation of cards and the previous Chaos legion are very different, and this is because of so many reasons. A newbie on Splinterlands may need about $500 worth of chaos legion cards (in investment) to compete up to silver one in either modern or wild format of the game, but with rebellion, they'll be looking at having $1000 or close to $1200 before they can do so with rebellion.

The reason is that the rebellion cards are now equipped with newer abilities, so if you're looking to invest in Rebellion packs, you might just about need up to $2000 if you want to have a complete set of cards to compete up to silver one or even gold three. I saw a lot of rebellion cards opening, it's harder to get legendary cards, but gold cards are very common. So it's more difficult to pull equality cards unless you buy a lot of packs.

So a newbie will be better off buying these cards in the market rather than depending on the general luck that comes with opening the packs. From my analysis and findings, players were more luckier with opening the CL packs. This hasn't exactly been the case with rebellion, and this proves something I'd like to highlight. Having less luck with getting quality cards, shows that there will be less saturation in the market, meaning that those who are lucky to own these big, super rare cards are going to be rich when the bull market peaks.

So this Means that from the investor's perspective, rebellion might net more money in profit for the big investors, because of this scarcity mechanism as well as other burn and stake mechanisms that have been put in place to prevent over-saturation in the market. Chaos Legion didn't have this mechanism, and this is because certain things weren't put into perspective and the aspect of CL tokenomics wasn't really sophisticated enough to ensure the longevity of its economic value.

However, we can agree that one thing that worked for CL was the timing of its release.

A lot of people were able to buy CL because of the timing of its release, the simplicity of these cards, and the alignment of the quality that comes with it means that affordability was certain. Don't take away anything from rebellion. The cards are great, with newer laudable abilities and mechanisms to make them constantly valuable, however, it's expensive to own or compete with rebellion cards if you're a new investor on Splinterlands.

This means you're going to have to spend more money unless you choose to actually combine rebellion cards with other generations, especially CL which seems to be very cheap at the moment in the market. Futuristically, not all CL cards will retain their value in the coming years, but owning them at the moment as they come cheaper means that you'll compete, earn rewards, and remain relevant, but might miss out on the potential millions that might come with rebellion.

I feel that Rebellion will be one of the best generations of cards

and this isn't because the cards are good-looking (to me some of the designs are awful) this is mainly because they come with newer abilities and the mechanism put in place will be life-changing money to those who invested lots of money buying them. So I think getting involved with this, plus some adequate resources are seemless investing. However, this might not be the same with small investors, as you might need a lot of cash to cash out big when the market peaks.

So, I believe that Rebellion comes with a lot of advantages, but the price entry point is humongous

.....and this might not be so good for a new investor looking to put in small money and play the game. This is a barrier to adoption, but thankfully, exploring other card options is a possibility so I won't really look at Rebellion's entry cost as a problem, provided there are other options of entry. CL will always remain relevant because of this, unless something different happens and a new generation is released in the last quarter of 2025. However, we're yet to see the economic potential returns on rebellion, but I'm certain it'll be more than we saw with CL.

Wow
That means joining Splinterlands or being able to make something good out of it early is by investing about $1k
That’s a lot though but it is worth it

No, I meant that one needs about $1k to be able to compete with the new generation of splinterlands cards.

Seems like a project with a lot of potential. But I think I need some read up on it to grasp it fully before I consider making an investment. Thanks for sharing.

Rebellion is an expensive investment, and wisely choosing cards to invest in will be key to success. The CL ones I still own are ones I will continue to use, a lot of CL cards just weren't great or a good fit to my playing style. I have noticed a lot of the Alpha cards have been getting cheaper and cheaper, eventually CL will do the same as better and newer cards come out.

I'm still a big fan of Llama and Kitty, but for renting as owning them is still just to expensive at level 3.

How are you holding up?

A lot of CL fit into my playing style, especially when combining them with the soulbound cards. I haven't opened up the Rebellion set I bought, just four, I don't think I will, I think I'll just sell them because I really don't have hundreds of dollars to actually buy more. Rebellion is expensive and because of the mechanisms set it place, I don't think it'll become cheap over time.

As for me, I'm just hanging there, hoping, praying and hoping again. How about you? How's it been with you?

With the new burning mechanics for Rebellion, I think the price including second market will hold up quite high. Compared to that Chaos Legion at under $1 is quite undervalued even if it has a crazy supply. Maybe due to this gap, CL will appreciated over time, even I've lost hope on that.

You're right, rebellion will always do better than CL and this is frankly because of the mechanisms set in place to ensure that. CL at 1$ is unbelievably low and it's so sad to see that it's like this at the moment.

The rebellion cards are definitely powerful. Some of them are just pretty amazing and I have lost a lot since rebellion came out. I agree that the barrier to entry is even higher now and they also need SPS staked to earn rewards too. So the barrier of entry is high and I wonder just how many people Splinterlands can attract.

The barrier to entry is humongous if you ask me. This is the reason why I question as to whether it'll be cheap enough for new players to access it. CL is doing a good job of that, but when it comes to profit, sadly we have to give it to Rebellion.
