The cost of unforeseen expenses...
You think you have life figured out sometimes, you think you've got enough saved, you feel like there's nothing your locked-away funds cannot handle and then you get hit with something completely unexpected.
An expenses you never considered, out of the blue, completely unpredicted and something you didn't see coming. One of the funniest things about reality is underestimating financial commitments that comes with life.
One moment you're completely secured and another time you're wondering how you've completely missed out on something that deserved planning for, and you've absolutely ignored it.
This is not to say that making money plans is very bad, infact without making money plans you're probably going to fail in many areas of life. Infact the very reason why a lot of us haven't capitulated financially is simply because of our tendencies to plan and how far they've helped us stay above water, but it's almost difficult to plan on a tight budget and get it right.
The reason why we plan is to correctly spread our resources, this helps you avoid wastage. People think that spending carelessly is the only way to waste, but this isn't true. Not spending on what matters more or taking your scale of preference correctly can cost you a lot.
Except you have a lot of money then you're always disadvantaged. Planning is one of the biggest skills of people who do not have enough, and it's also of of the skills that keeps you afloat.
In other words, not having enough is one of the biggest financial burdens ever, and this is because of the constant stress you incur especially when you're trying to plan. I've been very broke, and I've had some period where I had money, and I can comfortably tell you that I'm always wiser whenever I'm broke.
This isn't necessary a good thing.
Being financially responsible because you've learned hard financial lessons is not a very good way to be wise, because you've learned a bitter lesson because of the several losses you've incurred.
This means that the burden of planning can be very difficult, especially since you cannot predict circumstances that doesn't leave you any clues. For example someone whose car is jerking constantly on the road already have a clue that something big is about to happen to their car, and they carefully plan for it, but we cannot call this "unforeseen" because the signs and clues were already there.
Imagine some who suddenly collapses, they're taken to the emergency room and the doctor says the surgery that will keep that alive is a hundred thousands dollars, and they already budgeted all their money and have nothing left. That's how you define unforeseen circumstances.
They're the ones that escapes our "planning radar" for example, people do not go about planning their death or something like that. No one who is healthy, young and have no Comorbidities, goes about planning or expecting their funeral or to suddenly develop a health condition.
People plan based on their current reality and this is basically the only flaw we have in the way we plan. This is why people actually write their wills when they're getting old, it is rare to see a 40 year old who is rich, writing their will, except they have a terminal condition and it's confirmed they're not going to make it.
Is there anything wrong with having a flawed planning style?
I'll say no. If everyone could predict circumstances, or if circumstances could be foreseen, I think this will bring a new plague on humanity. Life is designed to be orderly and a of times, bad or good things might benefit some certain entities.
Some who gets robbed is sad, but the robber is happy, while it's an absolute disaster, the robber is happy and the person who was robbed might die of depression and the thief might go ahead to become wealthy by investing the money he has stolen. It's a heartbreaking situation and that's just how reality is.
We cannot spent time understanding what reality is all about, because reality is chaotic and sometimes it can be very difficult, but that's what it is. We will never be able to see a lot of things that can be detrimental to us, and sometimes I just think this is a way life tends to checkmate people. It's one of the most brutal things I've ever seen
The unforeseen is inevitable in life. One day you are living on top of the world the next you can be struck by lightning. That's why I have always been a stacker of precious metals, so I have a cushion to fall back on worst case scenario. Plus, I'm hoping to leave my son a pretty good inheritance. I have had to use some recently with my health issues, but that's why it's there. I still struggle to make ends meet which is my I have put the house up for sale, and when it sells I'll be off to Florida where it's less expensive!
Life is cruel and unfair, it always has been, always will be. The best advice I ever got was when you get paid, the first person you should pay is yourself. I other words put a portion in safe investments. Many of those I've had to sell the last couple years, but I'm lucky I had them!

Exactly. I've known a few people in my lifetime who were very healthy, funny enough they always had the premonition that I would be the first one to go, but I haven't, and I'm still going despite it all.
As for money.... well. I think I haven't been prudent with money, and that has been one on my biggest mistake. I'm glad you're leaving your son something, and some things to also fall back on. I currently don't have anything to leave my son, but I hope I can, don't want him having the life I had, it was horrible for me.
Would be great to see you leave and go somewhere cheaper.

we often undermine the unseen because we seem secure at the moment untill the unexpected happens.
life is built like that prior to when i was about to pass out, i had planned heavily about my life after service all of that failed well, i was broke and jobless the kind of brokeness that you don't even have the slightest clue of when the next money will come from...
but i get it i had to gather my fragments and move on again in the end planning is a necessity atleast you have an edge to lean on
I understand broke, although I think some level of brokeness will even drive one into depression, and it's a very dark place to be in. I thought I beat that "being broke" thing, but I was robbed in February and everything was taken from me, it was one of the worst days of my life.

Planning financially doesn't guarantee you are safe, but gives an edge over who doesn't, because unexpected expenses can always come when you never could predict, but you can face them better
Exactly, people can plan and still fail woefully, it's definitely not a guarantee for anything, but at least it gives you this cushion. If not that I plan a lot, maybe things could have been worse for me.
It is a grave mistake to think that you have achieved everything; as human beings, we should always remain driven by a hunger for something more.
If things go wrong at any point, instead of giving up, we should strive to improve ourselves and our efforts further.
Yes, no one should rest on their oars, it's one of the most complacent things that a human being can ever do.
Life doesn't always go the way we want, but that extra buffer can make things a lot easier. It might not solve everything, but having that financial buffer can always be helpful as that money can do various things.
Yeah. It hardly goes well for anyone, except maybe a few who are very lucky. I've never been that lucky and hopefully some day I pray I do. But we still have to plan, nonetheless.
