Why is it difficult to build ventures from scratch?

A while back, I paid someone to teach me a skill that I can monetize. So this person is highly successful and makes five figures in dollars every month, so I tried to learn the craft from them, and so far I haven't been happy with my progress.

So far, I've analyzed my progress and I honestly don't like how far it's coming, I felt like in almost 2 months, I've not grown the way I want to, then I go on Twitter and I see people who have better milestones.

The person I paid says, it's a marathon and not a race, says it took her four years to start earning 5 figures monthly, but I felt at the race I was moving I might it even do 3 figures in one year. Then I get frustrated with my progress, get angry at how slowly it's been, get mad at how much money I've sacrificed along the way, the sleepless nights.

Going to bed late at night, trying things for weeks that ends up failing and all that. It was genuinely becoming tiring. Generally I wouldn't be in such a rush, I'm the guy who doesn't mind the process, I just want constant progress even if I can't see result .

I love milestones and progress, but for most part of it, it just feels like I put 14 to 18 hours daily and I just feel like I've hard done anything. However after careful scrutiny and consideration, I realized there is progress, but I just don't see it. Is it there? Yes, so why didn't I see it?

It's simple: I am at a testing phase of my life where terrible decisions have led to multiple losses, and I discovered that I've been trying to use the smaller reserves I have to build something that could yield some profit, and it hasn't worked as much as I wanted.

A crypto-trading comparison

A lot of people don't know that there's this level of cowardice and fear that comes with making money mistakes, and on the flip side, the opposite of that is confidence.

Money losses creates a snowball effect. For example, people who are crypto traders do something called "revenge-trade".

It's like trying to win back the money you've lost to the market by trying to lock in with even higher figures, but the biggest flaws with this tactics is that you're not thinking straight, you're basically just trying to get back what you've lost and even make more money as well, and 70% of the time, revenge trading doesn't work, at least not for everyone.

Similar, but not the same

While I won't say I've been doing something similar to revenge trading, I think I've been trying to luck in by investing my reserves and then just get sad that the milestone I need to see that might guarantee that I make money in at least 8 months to one year isn't really happening.

I've listened to some people, they said it's not slow progress. They think every effort will eventually snowball and even though it's currently looking stagnant that it'll eventually pay off, it's definitely not looking like that and I have to continue throwing in resources at all times, even though I feel a certain type of uncertainty.

I guess this is how the hustle actually feel.

A lot of times it's just difficult to see progress. While it's true that there might actually be no progress at all. It's actually likely that there's progress and we're just not seeing it because we're scared it won't work out and we'd have wasted our resources for nothing.

This something you don't experience when you have enough resources. When you've got enough resources, you're not scared to build, you don't even bother how long it takes, you're not scared of failure because the possibilities of failures does not change your current state of finance.

Infact what you're building is supposed to make you more money, and because there are no fears of failure, you can build without actually trying to hasten the building process.

After this careful scrutiny I have realized that my previous failures are what causes my current fears, and I've you've tried building something that constantly requires you to put in money without a guaranteed for success, then you'll probably never understand this.

I've also tried establishing channels, brands or however these are called on either YouTube and Twitter(X) with the aim to build a high follower base and monetize on them. I saw progress, but the only thing I realized about that is the "time" I wasted for that little "return". Thus, I've switched to ventures that imply spending less time and earning more. Even if not 4-5 digits, but in line with my involvement.

You're right, ventures that you need to put in a lot of time will eat your mental health, and that's honestly saddening. It's great to see you're focused on less time-consuming things that can pay financial dividends. It's honestly a very good path you've taken.

3 to 4 digits on a monthly basis is still very good.

i felt so too, I've paid for a course and as i try to i just give up, but yesterday i made a decision to make sure i utilise that course till finish cause i paid for it, my money won't go to waste, i will likely stay up late every night to make sure of that, the year is fast running and i can't afford to end this way, it's a challenge and i must raise the bar to meet up that's life..

most importantly patience is a virtue seriously, one of my conviction is that if this person's actually made this figures and they are really adamant about it then i would give it my best shot to see how far, following every principles and steps they recommend

This wasn't even a course, it was a paid mentorship. At the stage or place I was, I needed something that I could lay my hands on, maybe it's because my expectations were too high, or because I just haven't done enough, I wouldn't really know. I just want to keep pushing it.

I wish you good luck for yours too. Sometimes these things works out, other times, they simply don't. But I guess continuity and consistency is important

I don't usually comment, but I've never felt more connected to a post. And what can I say? I totally get you. It's like we're going through the exact same thing, and I don't know, but it kind of gave me a little hope.

And in my case I have realized that I also have a fear of uncertainty in addition to the fear of previous failures. Because, it's exactly like you said, if you had the money it wouldn't matter if what you're doing works or not, but when you're putting in everything you have, the fear that it won't turn out the way you want is quite big.

Because in the end no one can know the future, and we can't guarantee that what we're doing now will give us the results we want. So that uncertainty of whether it will work or not is something that has also affected me a lot. I wish you the best, and I hope you achieve the results you want, good luck ❤️

Thanks for this carefully crafted comment. I think people who have money or reserves are the ones that can actually take risks without being scared if it'll work or not. That said, I also don't think it's easy to reach a place where you're actually comfortable enough to take risks too.

So at some point, even people who can afford to take risks once had a position where they couldn't afford to do so.

However, it's more uncertain for people who are putting in everything that they have without a guarantee that it might even turn out well.

I hope it turns out well for you.

Thanks. And you're right, I've heard that reaching the first $100k is the hardest part, that after that everything gets a bit easier and flows more smoothly

I think it's harder to earn that type of profit following others, and especially so if they are teaching because there are other people using those same techniques. It means the number of people competing for that same share is increasing, but the person teaching still earns because they are just doing courses.

You're totally correct, a lot of times there are many people sharing from the same pool of knowledge, but this is where individual creativity comes in. I feel that anyone who learns from someone else will eventually need to apply their own knowledge to make it unique.
