Surely most of you have already seen this movie. Simbad The Legend of the Seven Seas, is a Dreamworks movie released in 2003, and that ended up becoming the last 2D animation of the studio, since, as I said in a previous post, by this time, 3D animation was a revolution that left without many merits to the great fuckers of 2D animation.

But at that time I was still a kid, and I only wanted to see pirates, monsters, and adventures, and I must say that this movie gave them to me; this being one of my favorite Dreamworks movies to date, so today I'm going to remind you of this little animated gem, that as a kid made my imagination fly.

La película nos cuenta la historia de Sinbad, el líder de los piratas, los cuales inician robando un barco que contiene un valioso tesoro (el libro de la paz). Aunque no se esperaba que este barco fuera del príncipe Proteus, su viejo amigo de la infancia, los cuales después de saludarse y marcar sus límites, comienzan una batalla, la cual se ve interrumpida por un Kraken, que los deja en la obligación de unir sus fuerzas para salvar sus embarcaciones.

The film tells the story of Sinbad, the leader of the pirates, who begin by stealing a ship containing a valuable treasure (the book of peace). Although it was not expected that this ship belonged to Prince Proteus, his old childhood friend, after greeting each other and marking their boundaries, they begin a battle, which is interrupted by a Kraken, which leaves them in the obligation to join forces to save their ships.

Sin embargo, en medio del acto, Sinbad es arrastrado a las profundidades del océano donde hace contacto con la diosa Eris, la cual le encarga robar el libro de la paz. Por lo que, este se embarca nuevamente en la misión, y se va al palacio de Siracusa. pero renuncia a su misión tras conocer a Marina, la prometida de su amigo Proteus. Por otro lado, Eris aprovecha la ocasión, para robar el libro he inculpar a Sinbad, cosa que cambia por completo su vida, ya que Proteus se ofrece como prisionero para salvarlo.

However, in the middle of the act, Sinbad is dragged to the depths of the ocean where he makes contact with the goddess Eris, who commissions him to steal the book of peace. So, he embarks on the mission again, and goes to the palace of Syracuse, but gives up his mission after meeting Marina, the fiancée of his friend Proteus. On the other hand, Eris takes the opportunity to steal the book and incriminate Sinbad, which completely changes his life, since Proteus offers himself as a prisoner to save him.

En medio de esto, Sinbad toma la decisión de ir a buscar el libro a Tártaro, pero en su camino luchan contra sirenas, grandes monstruos marinos, y aves carnívoras. Que hacen de esta película un increíble paraje, con un montón de alocadas y divertidas aventuras, llenas de acción, persecución, drama, etc. De igual manera, cabe destacar que, Marina se incluye como polizón en la embarcación, para ver que Sinbad cumpla con su palabra, algo que en mi opinión le agrego ese toque divertido a sus aventuras.

In the midst of this, Sinbad makes the decision to go to find the book in Tartarus, but on their way they fight against mermaids, big sea monsters, and carnivorous birds. That make this movie an incredible adventure, with a lot of crazy and funny adventures, full of action, chase, drama, etc. It is worth mentioning that Marina is included as a stowaway in the boat, to see that Sinbad keeps his word, something that in my opinion added that fun touch to his adventures.

Por otro lado, tras llegar al tártaro y confrontar a la diosa Eris, esta no les devuelve el libro, ya que encuentra impurezas en el corazón de Sinbad. Así que, este decide volver a Siracusa para tomar el puesto de Proteus en la ejecución, y por este acto de lealtad, Eris hace su aparición, debido a que Sinbad había probado no ser quien ella había descrito, y debido a su promesa con él, decide devolver el libro y la paz a toda la ciudad.

On the other hand, after reaching Tartarus and confronting the goddess Eris, she does not return the book to them, as she finds impurities in Sinbad's heart. So, he decides to return to Syracuse to take Proteus' place in the execution, and for this act of loyalty, Eris makes her appearance, because Sinbad had proved not to be who she had described, and because of her promise to him, she decides to return the book and peace to the whole city.

Por último, la película termina con Marina uniéndose a la tripulación de Simbad, ya que su corazón estaba con el mar, y también con Simbad jeje (siempre me sentí mal por Proteus, perdió a su prometida :c jajaja). En fin, básicamente esta es la película, parece algo sencillo, pero verla es otro nivel.

Finally, the movie ends with Marina joining Simbad's crew, since her heart was with the sea, and also with Simbad hehe (I always felt bad for Proteus, he lost his fiancée :c hahaha). Anyway, basically this is the movie, it looks like something simple, but watching it is another level.

🎬 Mi Opinión / My Opinion 🎬

Esta película quizás no quedo como la mejor de su tiempo, debido a que como mencione antes, para ese tiempo las animaciones 3D causaron un mayor impacto, dejando estas películas un poco infravaloradas, aun así, en la actualidad sigo siendo fanático de las grandes obras que se pueden llegar a hacer con la animación 2D.

This film was perhaps not the best of its time, because as I mentioned before, by that time 3D animation caused a greater impact, leaving these films a little undervalued, even so, today I am still a fan of the great works that can be done with 2D animation.

A mi parecer, en esta película, el detalle de su animación tradicional es espectacular, sobre todo las geniales coreografías de peleas, y en el diseño de Eris, como su cabello, sus transformaciones, que siempre están en constante movimiento con una fluidez impresionante; sin mencionar el efecto de las criaturas, simplemente grandioso.

In my opinion, in this movie, the detail of its traditional animation is spectacular, especially the cool fight choreographies, and in the design of Eris, such as her hair, her transformations, which are always in constant movement with an impressive fluidity; not to mention the effect of the creatures, simply great.

Por el lado de la historia, dedo decir que esta es una adaptación muy pero muy libre de Sinbad el marino, ya que, por lo que estuve indagando, en la historia original Sinbad es el típico héroe clásico, cosa que en esta película no es así. A mi parecer me gusta más de esta manera, donde Sinbad es un ladrón, egoísta y cobarde que recién se convierte en héroe al final de su viaje, de igual manera la adaptación con las mitologías griegas, fue algo que sin duda me pareció excelente.

On the side of the story, I have to say that this is a very, very free adaptation of Sinbad the sailor, since, from what I was researching, in the original story Sinbad is the typical classic hero, which is not the case in this movie. In my opinion I like it better this way, where Sinbad is a thief, selfish and cowardly that only becomes a hero at the end of his journey, likewise the adaptation with Greek mythologies, was something that I certainly found excellent.

De hecho, si bien esta trama sigue un ritmo muy sencillo al inicio, donde ir de aventura en aventura para recuperar un objeto mágico, tiene un giro interesante cuando Eris pone a prueba la moral de Sinbad. Ese momento de duda del personaje entre escapar y tomar el camino fácil de siempre, o volver para sacrificarse por su amigo, me parece el punto más fuerte de la historia, eso, y el perrito Spike jeje.

In fact, although this plot follows a very simple rhythm at the beginning, where going from adventure to adventure to recover a magic object, it has an interesting twist when Eris tests Sinbad's morals. That moment of doubt of the character between escaping and taking the easy path as usual, or going back to sacrifice himself for his friend, seems to me the strongest point of the story, that, and the little dog Spike hehe.

Pero bueno, aun así, siento que lo único que le falta a la peli para destacar del montón, es un gancho emocional más fuerte. Ya que, como pudimos ver en otras cintas de Dreamworks, como el Camino Hacia el Dorado con una amistad más memorable, y Spirit con momentos más conmovedores. Pero con Sinbad te llevas una buena dosis del cine de aventura y una trama bastante interesante, algo que para mí fue lo mejor.

But still, I feel that the only thing the movie lacks to stand out from the crowd is a stronger emotional hook. Since, as we could see in other Dreamworks films, like The Road to El Dorado with a more memorable friendship, and Spirit with more touching moments. But with Sinbad you get a good dose of adventure cinema and a pretty interesting plot, something that for me was the best.

Lamentablemente esta sería la última película de su tipo, ya que tanto otras producciones como Disney, y esta, no recaudaron tanto fondo con películas como estas, de animación 2D. Siendo la animación 3D algo que llevo a la cima a estas grandes casas de producción. Ojo, no es que no me guste la animación 3D, todo lo contrario, también he disfrutado películas de este tipo como Sherk, Madagascar de Dreamworks; Los Increíbles de Pixar, sin duda grandes animaciones que también marcaron mi infancia.

Unfortunately this would be the last film of its kind, since other productions such as Disney and this one did not raise as much money with films like these 2D animated films. Being 3D animation something that took these great production houses to the top. On the contrary, I have also enjoyed movies of this type such as Sherk, Madagascar by Dreamworks; The Incredibles by Pixar, undoubtedly great animations that also marked my childhood.

Pero sin duda, sus películas de animación 2D, fueron algo increíble para mí, ya que se puede apreciar todo el trabajo y pasión que hubo detrás de estos proyectos como, Spirit – El Corcel Indomable, El Camino Hacia el Dorado, El Principe de Egipto. Y Sinbad no es la excepción, sus escenas de acción, el encanto de sus personajes, y su genial animación, marcaron el fin de una era para su estudio, una era dorada que no debería quedar hundida en el olvido. Sin duda fueron grandes joyas de la animación en sus tiempos, que no tuvieron el debido reconocimiento, pero que aun así me dieron una muy bonita infancia.

But without a doubt, his 2D animated films, were something incredible for me, since you can appreciate all the work and passion that was behind these projects such as Spirit - The Untamed Steed, The Road to El Dorado, The Prince of Egypt. And Sinbad is no exception, its action scenes, the charm of its characters, and its great animation, marked the end of an era for the studio, a golden era that should not be sunk into oblivion. They were undoubtedly great gems of animation in their time, which did not have the due recognition, but still gave me a very nice childhood.
