Un adulto niño de nombre Jairo Aníbal Niño (Esp | Eng)

Una figura importante de la literatura colombiana contemporánea es Jairo Aníbal Niño, quien falleciera en Bogotá hace 14 años, el 30 de agosto de 2010. Nacido en el atractivo municipio de Moniquirá en 1941, se dedicó al teatro, llegando a ser director y un reconocido dramaturgo, que tuvo a su cargo la dirección del teatro de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Se desempeñó como profesor universitario y dirigió la Biblioteca Nacional de Colombia. Aparte de algunos libros para adultos, dedicó la mayor producción literaria a niños y jóvenes, para los que escribió novelas, cuentos, teatro y poesía. Recibió diferentes premios en su país y fuera de él.

Con una poderosa imaginación, una gran pasión por la creación y un dedicado amor hacia la infancia y la juventud, Jairo Aníbal Niño logró, durante su vida como escritor, una amplia obra, como hemos indicado, que incluye entre sus novelas Zoro (1977), Dalia y Zazir (1983), Aviador Santiago (1990), Los papeles de Miguela (1993), Gato (2001); entre sus libros de cuentos: La hermana del principito (1995), El jardín de las ilusiones (2000), El equipaje de la mariposa (2002), Cuentas del collar de los cuentos (2008), La libreta de Simbad (2009); en poesía: La alegría de querer: poemas de amor para niños (1986), Preguntario (1989), Para aprender el idioma de los pájaros (2006), El libro de la caricia (2008) y ¿Por qué los pájaros azules no comen hormigas? (2010), para nombrar algunos de los más conocidos.

Envueltos en su espléndida creatividad, trató entre sus temas preferidos: la naturaleza –en especial los animales–, la infancia, la aventura, la literatura fantástica, abordados con delicadeza, pero también con sentido crítico, muchas veces. Fue un gran defensor de los derechos de los niños, en particular, de una educación en libertad para estos; esta posición quedó claramente expresada en sus respuestas a una consulta hecha por el periódico El Tiempo acerca del sistema educativo, que se conoce como "El sueño de un poeta": "Sueño con una escuela libre, que escuche el corazón de sus niños, en la que sea posible el vuelo de la imaginación que muy de vez en cuando aparece en el corazón de maestros y maestras." Las jirafas tienen el cuello tan largo porque necesitan mordisquear las altas hojas de los árboles para tener la ilusión de que se alimentan de ventanas.

¿CÓMO SE PASA AL OTRO LADO DEL ESPEJO?

Para pasar al otro lado del espejo, se necesita del valor temerario de un niño de siete años, de su facultad para convertir el azul en quetzal y la nube en garza. Él sabe que tiene que ascender por la vertiente más peligrosa del espejo, trepar cuidadosamente para no tropezar con el brillo, afianzar con firmeza el pie para evitar hundirse en la garganta de los reflejos, y eludir el encuentro cegador con los ojos de su doble. Entonces llegará a la cúspide y pasará al resplandor del otro lado, descendiendo por la parte oscura de la luna.

Resalta en estos breves textos tanto la poeticidad, como el sentido lúdico, inclusive irónico y humorístico, en una singularísima visión recreativa de esas preguntas que pueden recorrer no sólo la mente de niños sino también de adultos.

An adult child named Jairo Aníbal Niño

An important figure in contemporary Colombian literature is Jairo Aníbal Niño, who died in Bogotá 14 years ago, on August 30, 2010. Born in the attractive municipality of Moniquirá in 1941, he dedicated himself to theater, becoming a director and a renowned playwright, who was in charge of the theater of the National University of Colombia. He worked as a university professor and directed the National Library of Colombia. Apart from some books for adults, he dedicated most of his literary production to children and young people, for whom he wrote novels, stories, theater and poetry. He received different awards in his country and abroad.
With a powerful imagination, a great passion for creation and a dedicated love for childhood and youth, Jairo Aníbal Niño achieved, during his life as a writer, an extensive work, as we have indicated, which includes among his novels Zoro (1977), Dalia and Zazir (1983), Aviador Santiago (1990), Los papeles de Miguela (1993), Gato (2001); among his story books: The Little Prince's Sister (1995), The Garden of Illusions (2000), The Butterfly's Luggage (2002), Accounts from the Story Necklace (2008), Simbad's Notebook (2009); in poetry: The Joy of Loving: Love Poems for Children (1986), Ask a Question (1989), To Learn the Language of Birds (2006), The Book of Caresses (2008) and Why Don’t Blue Birds Eat Ants? (2010), to name a few of his best-known works.
Wrapped in his splendid creativity, he dealt with some of his favorite themes: nature –especially animals–, childhood, adventure, and fantasy literature, addressed with delicacy, but also with a critical sense, many times. He was a great defender of children’s rights, in particular, of a free education for them; This position was clearly expressed in his answers to a query made by the newspaper El Tiempo about the educational system, which is known as "The dream of a poet": "I dream of a free school, which listens to the hearts of its children, in which the flight of imagination that appears from time to time in the hearts of teachers is possible." Giraffes have such long necks because they need to nibble on the tall leaves of trees to have the illusion that they are feeding on windows.

HOW DO YOU GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR?
To get to the other side of the mirror, you need the reckless courage
of a seven-year-old boy, his ability to turn blue into a quetzal and a cloud into a heron. He knows that he has to climb the most dangerous side of the mirror, climb carefully so as not to trip over the brightness, hold his foot firmly to avoid sinking into the throat of the reflections, and avoid the blinding encounter with the eyes of his double. Then he will reach the top and pass into the brightness of the other side, descending through the dark part of the moon.
In these short texts, poeticism stands out, as well as a playful, even ironic and humorous sense, in a very unique recreational vision of those questions that can go through not only the minds of children, but also of adults.
