Bridge Trust

Every first of every month, is a time of reflection for me. April taught me a lot things. It broke me. I thought I was strong enough for it. No one wishes to have a bad experience but life happens and as such, we need to learn how to stand up and fight for ourselves.

Just like I do every 1st of every month, I sat down on the first of April, and planned everything I wanted to do. I planned starting a foodstuff business where I would export some organic produce abroad. In fact it was a promising business and I was excited to start it. I made all the enquiries to get the best produce. As a starter, it is important that you start well.

Among the stuff I wanted to sell was palm oil, crayfish and Irvingia Gabonensis ( commonly called ogbono). I got a supplier who was introduced to me by my sister in-law. They were roommates in school and that made me relaxed. At least I was going to deal with someone who is trusted.

My first customer was my cousin who lives in the US. He said he had missed eating ogbonno and wanted me to supply it to him. I happily contacted my supplier. She was to send a small paint bucket of ogbono. She asked me to send her the money which I did. I sent my own money to purchase it. I told my cousin that he would pay me immediately it got to him. Deal was sealed and waiting.

After I sent the money to my supplier, she was suppose to send me the produce. She explained that she was busy and would send it the next day. I called the next day and she didn't pick throughout the day. She turned off her phone in the evening and since then till date, I haven't heard from her again. I was so pained and I am still pained. My first business trial just went sour. I am glad I didn't collect money first from my cousin.

When my cousin called to confirm if his order was going to be delivered soon, I explained everything to him. I wasn't sure if he believed the story as since then till now, he hasn't talked to me. I thought about this for days and it made me cry.

How do I make my cousin trust me again just in case he decides to order again? It is painful but I think that is how life is. I haven't gotten over the disappointment yet. When I think of it sometimes, it makes me feel like a failure already. To think that I was super excited to start this business. All of that excitement has gone down the drain.

I have prayed to just get over this first. And maybe when I pick myself up again, I may try again. But not anytime soon. I hope this time, I don't fall into any scam.

What do you think I did wrong? Did I trust too much? What may be going on in my cousin's mind? These are the questions that have been running through my mind. I hope to get answers pretty soon.

Hmmm... trust is a very valuable human emotion, it is very hard to gain back once it's lost. I just hope people are very aware of this and not hurt their fellows.

Really sorry this happened to you, have you explained all that happened to your sister in law that initially introduced the supplier to you? Since she’s closer to her she might get some answers.

And like the popular saying goes, every disappointment is a blessing in disguise.
At least now you’ve realized not to trust just any supplier, family or no family, business is business.

My sister in-law just has the same number and nothing else. The lady in question has even blocked us.

I will never send money first again.

Thank you for your response

Have you even seen your Sister-in-law yet? As family, you would eventually come across her, an opportunity to set the record straight.

My sister in-law too has been trying to reach her but to no avail. And she doesn't know the lady's house. If not we would have visited.

What a sad ordeal, all these foolish vendors who never live up to their words. what pains me is they don't keep InTouch for problems or possible delays. Oh! dear You are not a failure and shame shame shame on this bad vendor.
as you rightly said, Trust is a like glass, once broken, it's almost impossible to mend it. I hope we don't lose the trust we earn (This words of trust is for the bad vendor)
As for you, I believe your cousin trust you and will understand, give it another go Sis.
Brilliant blog as always with valuable lessons. Much Love❤️

@joydukeson My dear friend, unfortunately these are things that happen,🥺.
But don't faint go ahead with your ventures, just make sure you don't do everything online, go to the site or physical store, make it something verified before handing over money.
