God showed up for us

I have been up since 2 am. It has been a crazy day for me and even though I am stressed, I am grateful to God Almighty for this big testimony I am about to share. All I can say is that God is truly merciful and hears when we call Him.

Around 2am ish, my neighbour came knocking on my door. At first I was scared because I thought it was armed robbers. I started praying and pleading the blood of Jesus out of fear. He was still knocking and knocking until I summoned up courage to go close to the door. I asked who it was and lo and behold it was my next door neighbor. He said his wife was in labour and didn't know how to take her to the hospital by this time of the night since he didn't have a car. He came to ask me if I had any driver's number to call. I quickly called my Uber rider and in an hour the rider had arrived my house.

My daughter was sound asleep and it was just I and her that was at home. I wanted to follow them but because my daughter was with me, I told them to go that I will come over in the morning. Before I knew what was going on, his wife started crying. That I should pray for her because she was feeling like it would be her last time on earth. I already knew how labour pain makes a woman act and talk. I hushed her and told her not to be scared.

Something in me told me to go with them. Little did I know that my presence there would be for a reason. I carried my baby on my back and packed some few things that she will be needing and off we went to the hospital.

We arrived at the hospital and the nurses rushed her into the labour room straight. I started praying with her husband and encouraging him too as I saw that he too was panicking. The Uber rider opted to stay with us too. We were all outside waiting to hear the good news.

At around 4am, she had given birth. One of the nurses rushed to tell us the good news. But there was a problem. The baby was not crying and was struggling to breathe. The nurses and doctors were doing all they could to revive him. Roughly two hours later, we heard again that the baby's skin was already changing color. All these while, we were praying and calling on God to intervene. I was so angry in my spirit because I know that God doesn't give gifts and then take them back to hurt us. I got very angry and started praying with anger. With prayers and the mercy of God, the little boy picked up a bit and started breathing slowly and so the doctor referred us to a teaching hospital so that they can continue the treatment.

We got into the car immediately and rushed to the teaching hospital. Getting there, they said that there was no bed space and that this teaching hospital have no consultant that can handle such cases. I saw the pain in my neighbour's wife's face. That pain of seeing your child who is just a few hours old going through so much pain. I knew exactly how she felt. My child was still with me and fortunately, she wasn't disturbing at all. As if she knew what was going on, she was smiling at everyone around.

Since the hospital had no space, I told my neighbour about a private hospital and urged him to take the child there right away. We had to go to the private hospital. When we got there, they said we have to make payment first of #300,000. My neighbor pleaded and told them that all he could give at this point was half of the money. At first they refused but later accepted. They admitted the child right away and put him on oxygen. We were a little bit relieved but we got another shocker when the doctor came back to call my neighbour aside. My heart skipped. His wife was taken to a room to rest.

My neighbor came back to tell me that the oxygen was no longer sustaining his son that much. At intervals his pulse rate and heart beat was dropping to the point that they had to do resuscitation. I was just bothered why this was happening to this child because she had a normal delivery and there was no prolonged labour. The doctor later came to suggest that they take off the oxygen because according to him, it may just be a dead end. He later said we should go to a specialist.

We went to the specialist he recommended. Getting to the hospital, there was no space. They had to check and see if they can discharge a child to get a bed space for the child and luckily they got. They admitted the child and the nurse who came to check the child started praying. To the glory of God the child was resuscitated and he is currently still in the hospital on admission. But at least he is doing okay.

I cannot thank God enough for his grace and mercy on this little child. I will be back tomorrow for more updates on the progress of the child. For now, it is time to rest.
