Some Herbs and spices that makes me feel good. (#LOH 124)

My grandmother use to say that every plant you see has its own purpose and just because we throw them away or see them as weeds doesn't mean that it is not useful or medicinal to us. As an African and a Nigerian, there are so many herbs that we use for different purposes. For me personally, I do not really like herbs because of fear of over does. That's the major disadvantage of trado-medications. There is no dosage at all. We just know that you should take a glass morning and night and we don't even know if we are taking overdose or we are not taking enough of it. But miraculously or I should say fortunately, it works for us.

When I was pregnant, my mum brought so many herbs with the hope that when I give birth, I will take them. Well, at the hospital during our ante natal care, we were told to eat fruits and vegetables and discard those herbs that our mothers will bring to us. I stuck to the advice of my doctor for a while. I ate whatever I wanted and didn't take those herbs and spices my mum brought. But one thing happened one day, I noticed that even though I was 5 months post natal, my stomach was still very big. I expected that it would have reduced a bit considering that I had offloaded but it was still there. My mum laughed at me and told me that it was because I refused to take the things I was suppose to take. So this time, I let her give me the herbs she brought and guess what? I started noticing changes in one week I took them.

Aju mbaise

So if you ask me my favourite herb, i will say aju mbaise(sorry I don't have an English name for it). Every Nigerian woman knows what aju mbaise is because it is given to women who just delivered to help remove bad blood that must have been left in their system and as well help reduce belly fat. This has been the tradition for years and truth be told, it is still very effective till date. One thing I noticed about all these herbs is that they cost little to purchase them compared to the chemicals we take in the name of drugs.

Aju mbaise has a lot of things it does to the body apart from reducing fat, I also noticed that I was producing more breast milk than before. I also learnt from a friend recently that it cures hormonal imbalance too and prepares your body for conceiving too. It also helps to regulate irregular menstruation. These herbs and spices are natural and freshly tapped from the source which it was created in. So trust it to be very effective. Even when I cook, I try as much not to use so many chemical seasonings because all of these things usually have side effects. For instance, some seasonings I know have too much salt meanwhile those natural seasonings do not have such amount of salt in them.

uda

Another very nice spice i use is uda(no english name😁). If you use this spice to cook your peppersoup, you will come back and thank me. The aroma is brings alone can make you hungry plus it is also very medicinal. I have been having stomach pain for weeks. It wasn't my monthly visitor because at first I thought it was the sign that it was coming. I waited and waited for it to come and it didn't come. Every single day, I felt discomfort until I called my mum and narrated what was happening to me. She asked me to cook with uda which I did and the pains stopped. I realized that uda itself is an antibiotic that helps to regulate the system. All these natural spices and herbs are very good for our bodies. If you find them, keep them because you won't regret.

These are my favorite herbs and spices. This is my reaction to #ladiesofhive community contest. You can check it our here to participate.

Wow, this is good news you have shared. Please which language are do you speak so that Google can help us with the translation of the herbs.
Well our mothers have some level of experiences and I hope that doctors can tap into this to extract the active ingredients and make them into medicines.

Thanks for sharing dear.

So Uda would be what I know as black pepper? I love the smell of it although I have to laugh at my husband as every time he puts it on his food, he sneezes! I keep telling him to hold his breath while he does it, but he doesn't. Thanks for answering me. Have a lovely Sunday!🤗💜

I think black pepper is different. I wish we were close, I would have shown you.

Peppers are good especially for cold weather.

Happy Sunday to you too

Hello @joydukeson. Some very useful advice from your mother. Natural herbs are always the way to go. As you say, the bottled seasonings have chemicals in them, especially a generous amount of salt and sugar.

Thanks for sharing the special herbs. I learned a lot from your content.

Take care.
