when the rain comes
there's a party in the pits
frogs splash out
among the rainy puddles.
The cri-cri of the crickets
sing their melodies on the run
some are silent when others sing
between long and short sounds.
The chicharradas are loud
between the humid mastranto
the morichal dances with the wind
in the dew lamentation of the rain.
The cocuyos as stars
they flicker from one side to the other
some turn off and turn on their blinking
dancing the dance of tiny light.
ants sleep hidden
and others grind their food
for the winter to pass
between dry and wet litter.
Waterproof lazy caterpillars
they incessantly eat tender leaves
until they inflate their bags of hair
like bubbles of green water.
The rain brings life to the earth
everything moves when it arrives
everything is heard in the silence
of a caressing dew.
There is no life that emerges
if there is no rain dew
wake up with its waters
the beats of the earth.

Cuando llega la lluvia
hay una fiesta en los pozos
salen chapoteando las ranas
entre los charcos lluviosos.
El cri-cri de los grillos
entonan sus melodías en fuga
unos callan cuando otros cantan
entre sonidos largos y cortos.
Las chicharradas se oyen fuertes
entre el húmedo mastranto
el morichal baila con el viento
en el rocío lamento de la lluvia.
Los cocuyos como luceros
titilan de un lado y del otro
unos apagan y prenden su titilar
bailando la danza de la diminuta luz.
Hormigas duermen ocultas
y otras muelen su comida
para el invierno pasar
entre la hojarasca seca y húmeda.
Impermeables orugas perezosas
comen sin cesar tiernas hojas
hasta inflar sus bolsas de pelos
como burbujas de agua verde.
La lluvia vuelve la vida a la tierra
todo se mueve cuando llega
todo se escucha en el silencio
de un rocío acariciante.
No hay vida que aflore
si no hay rocío de lluvia
que despierte con sus aguas
los latidos de la tierra.
