[ENG-SPN] A medieval house / Una casita medieval

Somehow, wonderfully hopeful, it has survived, outside the fundamental cluster of the historic center of a certain long-lived city in northern Spain, the rage of centuries and its cruel devastation, essentially preserving its primitive medieval appearance, like a Visual history lesson, which introduces us to times, those of the Middle Ages, in which every last centimeter of land was used. Given that, as it might seem, not all the buildings were mansions that revealed the social position of the noble families that inhabited them, this little gem from the past, in its own way, tells us about those generally overcrowded conditions in the that the ever-suffering ordinary people lived and died. It was characteristic of the time and the people who fell into this category, which, of course, were the majority, took advantage of the land, no matter how scant it was, and erected residential buildings, which were characterized more by pointing upwards than by width. In such a way, that, in most cases, such uniqueness was taken advantage of, for the creation of small apartments, in which families crowded together or, in the case, of the places destined for lodging, some guests -generally, pilgrims, who, following the paths of the coast and the interior, headed towards the Picos de Europa and La Liébana or continued towards Asturias, to visit the Cathedral of El Salvador, in Oviedo, or, heading along the so-called English Way, they entered Lugo, to continue, through Melide towards Compostela- that, in the same way, they had to share the inconveniences of the narrowness, so it was not surprising, at all, that diseases and epidemics were a constant in this type of places. Fortunately, the little house that we see in these images, houses, in the best conditions, a family, which, as can be seen, has it perfectly conditioned, also showing, on balconies and windows, that pleasant fascination for flowers and their beauty, characteristic, also, of rural life.

De alguna manera, maravillosamente esperanzadora, ha sobrevivido, fuera de la piña fundamental del casco histórico de cierta longeva ciudad del norte de España, a la saña de los siglos y sus crueles devastaciones, conservando, en esencia, su primitivo aspecto medieval, como una visual lección de historia, que nos introduce en unos tiempos, los de la Edad Media, en el que se aprovechaba hasta el último centímetro de terreno. Dado, que, como pudiera parecer, no todos los edificios eran mansiones que revelaban la posición social de las familias nobles que los habitaban, esta pequeña joya del pasado, a su manera, nos habla de esas condiciones, generalmente, de hacinamiento, en el que vivía y moría el siempre sufrido pueblo llano. Era característico de la época y las gentes encuadradas en esta categoría, que, por descontado, eran la mayoría, aprovechar el terreno, por escaso que fuera y levantar edificios de viviendas, que se caracterizaban más por apuntar hacia lo alto, que por lo ancho. De tal manera, que, en la mayoría de los casos, se aprovechaba tal singularidad, para la creación de pequeños departamentos, en los que se apiñaban las familias o, en el caso, de los lugares destinados a hospedaje, unos huéspedes -generalmente, peregrinos, que, siguiendo los caminos de la costa y del interior, se dirigían hacia los Picos de Europa y la Liébana o continuaban hacia Asturias, para visitar la catedral del Salvador, en Oviedo, o bien, dirigiéndose por el llamado Camino Inglés, se introducían en Lugo, para continuar, por Melide hacia Compostela- que, de igual manera, tenían que compartir las inconveniencias de la estrechez, por lo que no resultaba extraño, en absoluto, que las enfermedades y las epidemias fueran una constante en este tipo de lugares. Por fortuna, la casita que vemos en estas imágenes, alberga, en las mejores condiciones, a una familia, que, como se ve, la tiene perfectamente acondicionada, mostrando, además, en balcones y ventanas, esa grata fascinación por las flores y su belleza, característico, también, de la vida rural.
