[ENG-SPN] A portrait of Fuentidueña / Un retrato de Fuentidueña

It seems like a sleeping place, located, complacent, on the side of a river, named Duraton, whose waters, despite its melancholic passage through the place, are still an ideal habitat for that fortunate class of trout that has not known never captivity and which frustrated fishermen are prohibited from tempting with the hook, the fly and the worm. Perhaps for this reason, they sometimes display their superb silver back in the vicinity of the old bridge, where tourists and travelers gather, to obtain a general perspective of the place.

A perspective that, although beautiful, of course, barely does justice, today, to the importance and power that this town had in medieval times, with the settlement, behind what were once its powerful walls, of refined schools. of stonework, which built imposing churches and hospitals, of which today, some looted and others left at the mercy of that endemic evil called ruin, only one survives, whose numantine elegance and resistance against the attacks of time and oblivion, maintains High the pride of what one day was: Fuentidueña.

Parece un lugar dormido, situado, complacientemente, a la vera de un río, de nombre Duratón, cuyas aguas, a pesar de su paso melancólico por el lugar, son, todavía, un hábitat ideal para esa clase afortunada de trucha que no ha conocido nunca la cautividad y a la que los pescadores, frustrados, tienen prohibido tentar con el anzuelo, la mosca y la lombriz. Quizás por eso, en ocasiones exhiben su soberbio lomo plateado en las inmediaciones del viejo puente, donde se dan cita turistas y viajeros, para obtener una perspectiva general del lugar.

Una perspectiva, que, aunque hermosa, desde luego, apenas hace justicia, en la actualidad, a la importancia y poderío que esta villa tuvo en tiempos medievales, con el asentamiento, detrás de las que un día fueron sus poderosas murallas, de refinadas escuelas de cantería, que levantaron imponentes iglesias y hospitales, de las cuales hoy, expoliadas unas y dejadas otras a merced de ese mal endémico llamado ruina, tan sólo sobrevive una, cuya prestancia y resistencia numantina frente a los ataques del tiempo y el olvido, mantiene en alto el orgullo de lo que un día fue: Fuentidueña.
