If there is something that remains eternally etched in the retinas of travelers and pilgrims, it is nothing other than the idealized vision of a sunset in that lavishly 'magical' area of the ancient Kingdom of León, which is, have no doubt, the region known as El Bierzo. A region that, in historical times, was friendly and protective of the inexorable exodus of civilians and combatants caused by the Muslim invasion of the Iberian Peninsula and the subsequent debacle of the Visigothic kingdom of the legendary King Roderic.

A region, dotted with small and charming towns, that sleep their eternal sleep on the side of a path of the stars, marked by the Milky Way, which was also the special focus of attention of a religious-military order, that of the Temple. , whose fortresses -Ponferrada, Cornatel, Sarracin, among others- not only guarded and protected the pilgrims who traveled along the old routes that headed towards Compostela, but also for the custody and exploitation of the important gold mines of Las Médulas, first exploited by the Roman conquerors.

This region looks like a ghetto region
I love the pictures though
We’ve got places like this here too

Not in the sense that is commonly given to the word ghetto, although it is a territory that is gradually being affected by the merciless ghost of depopulation.

Many small towns and villages have been affected by depopulation and today they are barely a ruin in which some families barely survive.
