[ENG-SPN] Ladies of Mystery / Damas del Misterio

An endearing professor who I had the opportunity to meet during my time at the Institute -the deluge of water that fell yesterday in Madrid is insignificant compared to the water that has fallen since then- affirmed that the greatest fascination that the Mystery can provoke in a being human, is directly proportional to its ability to endure over time, without ever revealing the essence of its secret.

Two of the greatest icons of Spanish Antiquity and, at the same time, two of its most significant and disconcerting mysteries, are found, jealously guarded, in the premises of the National Archaeological Museum of Madrid and both, from their fortuitous discoveries to the present day, continue to cause, like the famous and in fact, enigmatic smile of the Gioconda, the most daring and hallucinating suspicions: the Ladies of Elche and Baza, respectively.

The most extravagant speculations have been expressed about both -although due to their mysterious headdress, the most extravagant speculations have been expressed, to date, it is not really known who they were and what important role they played in those societies that seemed to venerate them as to goddesses, shuffling, however, and as a resource of kicking, their inclusion in those great myths of Humanity, such as Plato's Atlantis or the barely known Tartessos of Gargoris and Habidis, whose vestiges sleep the sleep of the just, buried by the cement of the grandiose tourist urbanizations of the golden coast of Andalusia.

Afirmaba, un entrañable profesor, que tuve oportunidad de conocer durante mis tiempos de Instituto -el diluvio de agua que cayó ayer en Madrid, resulta insignificante en comparación con el agua caída desde entonces- que la mayor fascinación que el Misterio puede provocar en un ser humano, es directamente proporcional a su capacidad de perdurar en el tiempo, sin terminar nunca de revelar la esencia de su secreto.

Dos de los mayores iconos de la Antigüedad española y a la vez, dos de sus más significativos y desconcertantes misterios, se encuentran, celosamente custodiados, en las dependencias del Museo Arqueológico Nacional de Madrid y ambos, desde sus fortuitos descubrimientos hasta nuestros días, continúan provocando, al igual que la famosa y de hecho, enigmática sonrisa de la Gioconda, las más atrevidas y alucinantes suspicacias: las Damas de Elche y de Baza, respectivamente.

De ambas -aunque por su misterioso tocado, se incide más en la primera- se han vertido las más extravagantes especulaciones, sin que hasta la fecha, se sepa, en realidad, quiénes fueron y qué importante papel representaron en esas sociedades que parecían venerarlas como a diosas, barajándose, no obstante y como recurso del pataleo, su inclusión en esos grandes mitos de la Humanidad, como la Atlántida de Platón o la apenas conocida Tartessos de Gárgoris y Habidis, cuyos vestigios duermen el sueño de los justos, sepultados por el cemento de las grandiosas urbanizaciones turísticas de la costa dorada de Andalucía.
