Pull Up Those Pants Young Man! | The Silliest Recent Fashion Trend - LADIES OF HIVE CONTEST #123

Hello everyone. Welcome back to my participation in the Ladies of Hive weekly contest. This week's contest topics by @merit.ahama is an interesting one and close to my heart. I have the pleasure of joining in the conversation to give my thoughts on the silliest fashion trend. There are numerous one we could laugh at all day. However, I wanted to address one that I think borders on disrespect.

QUESTION 2: What is the silliest recent fashion trend?

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6. Kings James Version 1

The reason I made my statement above that some fashion trends border on disrespect is that I was born in the Baby Boomer generation. It would have been unheard of for any child in my circle of friends or acquaintances to even come out of the house wearing this fashion trend.

The fashion trend that's a pet peeve of mine is the wearing of jeans not on the waist, but hanging on buttocks. Boys and teens adopted this trend. No belts in the belt loops around the waist to hold the pants in place. Instead, the belts are sometimes attached to a belt loop and pinned inside the shirt and fastened near the chest.

Our children are impressionable. We know this. How impressible I feel depends upon the parents to a certain extent. Children should be taught leadership and not following others just for the sake of trends and following the crowd.

In my opinion, parents are responsible for their children's heath and well being. However, I believe they are responsible also for their children's moral and ethical upbringing. If not then, who else. Therein comes the dilemma.

Children look up to and admire adults. Those adults should be directing them toward paths of understanding and doing what is morally right. Sadly, this is not the case.

Admiration for reality television stars, film stars, athletes, fashion, and music industry representatives, and other influences are all too willing to train your children if their minds are an empty cup waiting to be filled with ideas that often are devoid of moral and ethical values.

Although this fashion trend is not fairly recent, I still find boys and young adults practicing this. Now, they wear color coordinated underwear so that it doesn't look as noticeable.

The first time I saw this was during my teen's school years. Apparently, the trend partly originated from hip hop and skaters in the early 90s. The official term is "sagging". Also it's widely believed that male inmates in prisons and other facilities started the trend. After, the hip hop era of rappers popularized the style. Neither source can be relied upon to validate which one claimed the origin of the trend. 2

The boys would walk with their legs far apart in an attempt to keep the pants from falling down. Others would hold the pants in place with one hand. Seems like hard work for something that should be so simple. Just pull the pants up around your waist, put a belt through the belt loops, and fasten the belt!

I remember once my son asked if I would purchase a pair of jeans, size 38. Confused, I asked why. His response was that he just wanted a pair. Again, I asked what would be the purpose since he could fit a size 28 on a good day after three meals, a snack, and sneaked in junk afterwards.

After going a few rounds, I finally got to the bottom of this request. The answer was "all the boys at school are wearing them."

Well, that cut short our shopping trip for school clothes. Afterward, I reminded him of being an individual and not following the crowd. Upon arrival home, I then cited reasons why wearing pants down around your buttocks was disrespectful to all others who walked in the rear of him. My version was definitely quieter that what he would have received from his dad. He thanked me for the reminder.

He did say that when he got a job, he'd buy his own. Ironically, when he did get a summer job, he forgot about the pants to follow a trendy style like his friends. His funds was spent on pursuing and impressing a certain young lady that caught his attention. And thank God her idea of a boyfriend was not one who wore pants around their buttocks.

Funny how she got his attention straightaway without the extra justification I felt was necessary!

To some degree, I fault parents for purchasing the pants when their sons don't have the money to buy them. I feel this is enabling a practice instead of discussing why it's not appropriate.

Also schools have stepped up. They're fighting back on this indecent way of wearing pants.

I was extremely proud to hear that numerous school districts in many states put in place regulations addressing this issue and forbidding this fashion trend.

This was a very interesting piece.

The official term is "sagging".

It’s a big turn off for me once I see a guy sagging, isn’t fashion trends supposed to be lovely on sight? This particular trend is just annoying and screams irresponsibility, that’s the way I see it tho.

Good job @justclickindiva

Hello @ibbtammy. I appreciate your lovely compliment. Thanks for visiting. Yes, I just want to scream when I see a young man with his pants down around his buttocks. I hate to walk behind one. The sad thing about it is they think they are being cute and fashionable.

But then the younger generation in the music industry and other adults don't set very good examples.

Take care and have a good start to your weekend.

Hallelujah! I so totally agree! Besides being ridiculous, it's quite flat out ugly! I just can't figure out the attraction and I can't imagine a girl being seriously interested in someone who had to hold up their pants rather than holding their hand! Thanks for sharing! Have a great day! !LADY

My feelings exactly! I was hoping that my being in that generation didn't warp my thinking that I was out of touch with reality and not trendy! Thanks so much for the confirmation. I appreciate your visit and support.

Take care and have a good rest of your weekend.

My son's never caught on to that since I had them in a private school but I definitely remember this silly Trend.
Thanks for the humor revisited, @justclickindiva

That's a good thing he and his friends in private school got a break from watching another guy's behind.

You know I count myself lucky that other than the quick episode with my son and my refusal to go along with it, I never had any trendy problems with my kids.

I remember the rave over the ridiculously expensive tennis shoes and children getting hurt over them. My kids opted for reasonable-priced and still nice looking ones and saved the unsavory characters from contemplating harm to them for the sake of a pair of shoes.

Those were rough years for some parents.

Thanks so much for stopping by and view my post. I appreciate your support and engagement.

Take care.

The Private school was worth paying the price as my son were dyslexic as well, the school knew how to teach children with learning issues and were spared the social demeaning I experienced. My younger one even got two scholarships when he graduated.

When I was in high school, this fashion trend also existed among boys. I think it's really ridiculous. Wearing pants that are baggy and off the waist is a slightly stupid trend. They won't be able to run if the dogs chase them

What a scene that would be. No, indeed they'd fall flat on their faces.

Hahaha this is an interesting read and to think that I've seen that fashion style trend for so long over here, I totally get how silly it makes our guys look.

My Bro never liked it at all so I didn't get to try disciplining someone who wore such 😅 I hate the style a lot.

I view those guys who wear their jeans that way to be so irresponsible and disrespectful... They never look cool on it so I'm wondering who keeps deceiving them that it's a cool fashion style.

I appreciate you joining in ma'am 🥰

Yes, very disrespectful in all sense of the word. A fashion trend I didn't understand at all. I'm so happy my son ultimately didn't participate in it.

Thanks for your visit. I appreciate it.

Take care.

Great topic.i really don't know why they do it but then I'll love to get answers for the perpetrators someday especially on the angle of using hydroquinone creams,
I really want to know if they aren't proud of their skin

Hello. Thanks for your visit. People do strange things to their bodies in an effort to conform to society and go along with trends.

Take care.
