Zander's Duty | ZAPFIC MONDAY (11/20/23) | Prompt: safe (seguro)
It's time again for this week's ZAPFIC Monday challenge. The prompt "safe" presented the opportunity to explore the meaning of experiencing a secure environment, space, relationship, or mindset. In other words, an individual is heedful and don't have to proceed with caution because she is assured of no harm. The prompt can also refer to an object that assists us in storing our valuables in a secure location. I share with you a flash fiction in the format of a 240-character story whose format was created by @felt.buzz.
My story is below:
Inexperienced, Zander dozed off, not understanding his role as lookout. The stakes were high with daily, frequent attacks on their mob. Unaware, piercing screams rifled through the group.
He lost family that day. A valuable lesson learned.

Inexperto, Zander se adormiló, sin comprender su papel de vigía. Había mucho en juego con los frecuentes ataques diarios a su banda. Sin darse cuenta, unos gritos desgarradores recorrieron el grupo.

Oh poor Zander
Yes, he fell off his duty and the consequences were dire. His family suffered. The only good thing that came from this incident was that he learned what responsibility was. But it came at the expense of his family's death.
