Education is a very important tool. It is a tool that every citizen of a country should wield, to battle ignorance and equip themselves with necessary information. Sadly, this “important tool” is limited to a few people.

The rise in the cost of education is a problem most of the countries in the world are battling with nowadays. Have you ever thought of the importance of education? Have you ever wondered how the world would be if a larger percentage of people were literate? In the world we live in today, education is limited to those that can afford it.

Education is something everyone wished for. There are so many kids on the street who wish they had the opportunity to go to school, but die because of the cost of living and of course, the high cost of education. They rather stay at home and do other things. There are lots of kids, especially in Africa who instead of going to school, stay back and help their parents on farms and business places.

In some countries. Well, I’ve not done enough research yet. Ok, I’ll rather use “in developed countries” it is against the law for kids to stay at home instead of going to school (of course, genuine reasons aside). I was surprised the first time I found out it was against the law in some countries if a child does not attend school, the parents are fined by the court. The first time I saw this was in a movie I saw some years back. The title of the movie is “Little” starring Issa Rea and Regina Hall.

Do you think it’d be fair if the government in every country implements this law? Let’s focus on the African setting now. There are hundreds of people out there who don’t even believe in education. In their case, the sword is mightier than the pen. Not only do they not have the resources to sponsor their kids to school, some of them don’t even know the importance of education.

IS FREE EDUCATION POSSIBLE

Source

In the United States, education is the right of every kid. “RIGHT TO FREE PUBLIC EDUCATION.” Do you think this can be possible in every other country? There are lots of countries that provides free education for their citizens. Argentina, Poland, Uruguay and some other countries are good examples. There are developed and even developing countries out there that provides free education to their citizens right from elementary school, high school, and even the university. In my opinion, this is the way it should be.

Here in my country, the economic system is so messed up that nothing works anymore. The country is in so much debt that the government keep borrowing for projects. As at 2022, the debt of Nigeria was 44.6 trillion Nairas. When I was in high school, my government teacher used to tell us (his students) how the education system was so good. Although it wasn’t totally free, it was Affordable.

In my opinion, there’s no possibility for free higher education in my country. Well, if those in power decide to have a change of heart, maybe something might happen.

EFFECT OF MAKING EDUCATION FREE FOR ALL

One of the effects of making education free for all is that lots of people will have access to it. The high cost of education is a great barrier for some people. If the barrier is taken away then everyone can enjoy it. As I said earlier, there are lots of people out there in their homes sitting and doing nothing because they can’t afford school fees. There are thousands of dropouts out there who could no longer further their education, so they had to drop out for something affordable.

Free education helps develop the country as it helps bring up more educated people. Education equips people with problem solving skills in different areas, which in turn helps develop the country.

In conclusion
Education is an important tool and it should be free for all. One of the ways to battle inequality in our society is through free education. Education is also a great tool for promoting the country.

Thanks for reading.

I doubt if a free education setting can work in Africa, Nigeria to be precise. A lot of revenue is needed to keep the system running.

Free education is a very good initiative but I don’t think some African countries have got to that stage.
Imagine education being free in Nigeria. Will the government be able to maintain it? And to what point?

Free higher education can be possible in Nigeria but it all depends on the type of leader we have and with what I'm seeing now, I don't think that will be possible anytime soon

The very day I heard that education is mandatory, and free in some countries, I was surprised... and parents facing the law court if they fail to send their kids to school...hmmmm, can this kind of thing come down to Nigeria 😂
It's well oo, free Education is very possible here if the government wishes to manage our natural resources well, at least reduced fee will help
