Happy new year to the hive learners community. The amazing meme bets and up-to task moderators. I hope this new year brings good memories.

Here in my country, not everyone celebrates Christmas. While a large percentage of Christian/ celebrate Christmas, the Muslims don’t. I have a few christian friends that don’t celebrate Christmas due to reasons best known to them. Although Christmas celebrations are always nice and amazing, they cannot be compared to new year’s celebrations. This is because everyone (including Christians and Muslims) celebrates the new year.

The new year celebration is one of the biggest festivals (if not the biggest) in my country. It is a period where everyone forgets about their sorrows, trials and tribulations, and has fun. The celebration starts on the last day of December (December 31st). Here in my area, everywhere is always tight and rough. Cars, bikes, and even trekkers find it hard to move. It is during this period that the street boys make money.

They block roads with tires, benches and woods. If anyone wants to pass, you have to grease their palms. No one, not even the police can do anything about it. Even though this method may seem illegal, they use the money to repair things and drink alcohol. So in a way, it is something good.

The perfect January 1st
What is your idea of the perfect day of the year? Okay, visualize this; you have a superpower; just like Superman, Thor and all, to make things happen. Whatever you plan on your head will come to pass, no strings attached. If you could control everything, how would you have your day turn out?

My perfect January 1st
I like to imagine things. I don’t know if this is normal or weird, but I imagine things a lot. Anytime I’m alone and doing nothing, I start to imagine things and plan our events in my head. I can’t count the number of cool places I have visited, or how many movies I’ve directed in my head. Well, it might sound weird, but trust me, it is really cool.

The sad thing about life is that you cannot always get what you want. Sometimes, you make mistakes, sometimes you do bad. But you shouldn’t allow that to weigh you down. Imagine if you had the powers to make things go your way, wouldn’t that be so cool and amazing?

I love enjoyment. I like to enjoy and have fun. I love when things go as planned, I mean, who doesn’t. But mostly, I hate stress. I avoid anything that has to do with too much work. So if I had the power to give myself the best January 1st, it’d be filled with cool activities. I’d definitely have fun and avoid stress.

IF I HAD THE POWER TO GIVE MYSELF THE PERFECT JANUARY 1st

I don’t know if it is this way in other countries, but here in Nigeria, we spend the first few hours of the new year in our places of worship. My family has never missed crossover night. We always go to church by 10pm (December 31st) and crossover to the next year.

The city is always crowded, most years, cars find it difficult to move. And that is why we trekked to church for crossover last year. If I had the power to control everything, I’d make sure we drive our car to church for crossover. That is the first thing I’d do with my powers.

I find fireworks amazing. I love them. I love the way they lit up in the sky. I know you’ll find it funny and surprising that I have never touched, not even lit a firework. There are small fireworks, we call them bangers in my country. Yes, I have lighted those ones so many times. But you see those ones that light up in the sky, I have never even touched them.

After the crossover, I'd light up a firework. Those big, bright and shiny ones. It'd be so amazing to see how they actually work. I've even seen one that says "Happy new year" in the sky..I heard those ones are pretty expensive. I'd love to try those ones out..

Then after that, my family and I would go back home, in our car. While most of my family members sleep immediately they get back home, I like to watch movies. Every year, I watch movies or chat with my friends until around 6 or 7 in the morning. I watch nickelodeon shows; mostly the Thundermans and Henry Danger. So after getting home, I'd put on the TV, reduce the volume so it wouldn't disturb other family members. Then watch my favorite Tv shows.

The first day of the year is always busy. The house is always full. Kids running up and down in the compound. I love my privacy, u feel uncomfortable when there are too many people in the house, then they start asking questions. Some of them even ask deep, uncomfortable questions.

If I could control everything, I'd visit an Arcade with my siblings and cousins. I have a very good relationship with my cousins and I have something in common with most of them- we love games. So we'd go to a very big game shop in my city. I've always wanted to try out Virtual Reality games. I wanted to try one during Christmas, but things didn't go as planned. I'm sure my siblings and cousins will also enjoy it. The place is pretty big, there are so many games to play. There's a part where families play with another families. Paint ball shooting game.

Two groups; Red and green. The first group wears the red uniform, while the secind group wears the green one. We'd be given paint ball guns. It'd be so much fun to try it out with my family.

After playing the games, we'd go to a swimming pool. I'm not sacred of swimming pools, I have entered pools lot of times. But I just don't know why I can't swim. My brother on the other hand is a professional. A fish. My sisters and cousins also love swimming. So visiting a big swimming pool is definitely something I'd do if everything was under my control.

The next thing on my list would be to go back home and enjoy the new year food. We are found of eating Jollof rice/fried rice and chicken every first day of the year. But everything was under my control, I'd make sure we taste different African dishes; especially the soups. Of course, we'd also eat lots of chicken and meat (the most important thing😂).

During my childhood days, my grandmother used to tell us old tales and interesting stories in the evening of the first day of the year. Things changed and she stopped doing that. If everything was under my control, I'd bring back that little family tradition. I'm sure with all these, my family would definitely enjoy their first day of the year. A perfect January 1st.
