My 20 Dollars Fun-Filled Weekend

Hello everyone in the wonderful hive family. I hope you are all doing well. Once again, I’m grateful to the hive learners’ community for their wonderful initiatives.

The hive learners’ community has again presented us with an amazing topic and I’m very glad to be participating in it.

Sometimes the best way to solve your problems is to stop worrying too much and have fun while you can. Life is short, so make the best out of it. Have fun. Be silly. Take yourself out and be happy. Your happiness is what really matters. A lot of people think you need boatloads of money to enjoy yourself. However, you don’t need a lot of money to enjoy your weekend, just twenty dollars can do the trick.
Once in a while, I like to go out, visit nice places, and buy good things for myself. Why wouldn’t I? I deserve it. Sadly, I can’t even remember the last time I took myself on a date (probably on my birthday in February). I guess I’ve been very busy. Hopefully, I’ll make time for that this month.

How much is twenty dollars in my local currency

Gone are those days when things were very cheap. When I was much younger, things were very cheap. As a student, $20 is enough for two weeks. But things aren’t like before. The price of the things we used to buy years back has tripled now.
Presently, the Nigerian currency is suffering due to inflation. People earning in dollars are very happy about it. Unfortunately, those earning in Naira don’t feel the same way. Twenty dollars ($20) is 14,000 (fourteen thousand nairas). Definitely, you’ll surely enjoy your weekend with $20, that is if you’re not greedy.

If I were given twenty dollars to enjoy myself for the weekend, how would I go about it?

The first thing I’d do is to make a plan. I know some of you might be thinking “just for twenty dollars?”. Yes. I like making plans. Things run smoothly when you follow your plans.

Saturday: Go to a nice restaurant

One of the best ways to enjoy your weekend is to go out to a nice restaurant and get yourself something nice to eat. I don’t like to admit it, but I am a foodie. I love good food. I mean, who doesn’t? Eating good food makes you healthy.

There’s a nice restaurant not too far from my area. They sell the best jollof rice. I went three last December and I ate jollof rice. Since then, a day hasn’t gone by without me thinking about how delicious it was.

A plate of rice is #1500. So, I’d buy a plate of rice and 1 big roasted chicken (#1000). Then I’ll top it with 1 big bowl of ice cream (#1000); Mango and chocolate flavors are my favorite. I love cakes too. But I don’t like the icing; it is bad for your teeth, plus it is very sugary. So, I’ll go for the naked cake. They sell nice naked cake and at an affordable price; #500. I’d buy 1 naked cake and save it for later.

In total, I have spent #4000 naira and am now left with #1000. I’ll call it a day and head back home.

I love watching movies. If there’s something you should know about me, it is the fact that I’m a movie-lover. I prefer watching movies to reading novels (I think most people do). I watch movies every day. Yes, every day. Sometimes when I don’t have new movies to watch, I re-watch old ones. The funniest part of it is that despite the fact that I really love watching movies, I have never been to a cinema. The one time I was very close to going to a cinema was last December; my friends’ birthday. Sadly, mother nature was against the idea of us going to a cinema, so watched the movie at home instead.

There’s just one cinema in my city. I’ve never been there, but I’ve heard a lot of nice things about the place. My best friend has never been to a cinema, so taking her along would be a very good idea. Unfortunately, she likes Nollywood movies, but I don’t. I guess she’d have to watch the one I like.

A friend of mine told me the entrance fee is #1000 (x2) and the cost of their popcorn is #500 (x2). The total of everything is #3000.
In total, I’ve spent #7000 and am now left with #7000.

Personally, the best way to enjoy a Sunday evening is to enjoy a nice time with your family, eating barbecue or catfish pepper soup. I’d go for the catfish pepper soup; it is delicious, and easy to prepare, plus there is a place that sells live catfish in my area.

Everyone in my family loves catfish pepper soup. My dad can literally spend his lard cash on it.

I’d buy 2 big catfish (5000). Then I’d use the remaining #2000 to buy drinks.

What a nice way to enjoy the weekend. I’m sure I’d get a good sleep that day.

In conclusion, you don’t need 100 thousand nairas or more to enjoy yourself. As I’ve said earlier, just twenty dollars can do the trick. You don’t have to shop in expensive stores, or lodge in an expensive hotel. If you’re wise, you’d make the best use out of $20.

Lastly, be nice to yourself. Taking yourself out on a date doesn’t mean you’re giving up. You deserve it. Personally, taking myself out on a date refreshes my mind.
