My 7 Simple Tips For Coping With Stress

Source

Hello everyone in the wonderful hive blockchain. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Once again, I’m thankful to the hive learners’ community for their amazing initiatives.

The hive learners’ community has again presented us with another amazing topic, I’m so glad to be participating in it.

What is stress?

Stress is the body’s reaction to emotional or physical tension.
A large percentage of humans on earth battle with stress every day. Consider yourself lucky if you have a stress-free day. Life can be very cruel to some people. Some of us are facing difficult challenges that can be very stressful and can cause emotional pain, both in adults and youths. Even children are not excluded.

Causes of stress

Here’s a list of some of the main causes of stress;

The country’s economy

The world keeps getting worse. Everything keeps getting harder and harder. The country’s economy is one of the main factors that contribute to stress. Using Nigeria as a case study, a lot of terrible things are happening in the country. Lack of employment opportunities is a problem that has been disturbing the country for years now. Imagine a degree holder with a very good result, working as a cleaner or driver because of the lack of unemployment. Insecurity, inflation, bad government, high poverty levels, inequality, and political unrest; all this just in one country can trigger stress in citizens.

Work

Source

Work-related stress can be caused by a lot of things. For example, a person who works for more than 12 hours a day in a non-favorable condition. A person can get stressed if the work requires more than they can offer.

Financial problems

Source

Financial problems are also one of the main causes of stress. A large percentage of adults today are battling with this problem. Having financial problems means lack of a well-paid job (or lack of any job at all), inability to pay off debts, too many expenses, lack of budget, and so on. Financial problems are a major source of stress that requires immediate attention. I’ve heard stories of people who took their own lives because of financial problems.

Parenting

Parents do a lot of work in managing their jobs and at the same time, taking good care of their kids. We all know kids are very stubborn and playful. Taking care of kids can be very stressful, especially if you have a houseful of them.

Personal relationships

There are people in life that makes life miserable for others. It could be your friend, co-worker, boss, or even your family member. Toxic people can also cause stress.

Stress, if not well managed can lead to emotional damage or breakdown, illnesses, and worst ill, death. The best way to deal with stress is to find a coping mechanism. Stress is a normal part of human life. Most of the time, we don’t have power over it. Do you let stress get the better side of you? Or do you have your own ways of coping?

How do I cope with stress?

Accept that you are not alone

This is the first step I take when trying to get rid of stress. Accept the fact that there are things you cannot control, and that you’re not alone. If you hear some people’s stories, then you’ll know yours is even better. Don’t harm or blame yourself, instead love yourself the more.

Listen to music

Source

I know a lot of people love doing this. Yes, me too. Listening to music is one of the best ways to cope with stress. Personally, I feel there is a great connection between music and the human body. If you’re stressed, try taking a break and listening to music that you love or listening to music that thinks can get rid of what you’re facing. If you’re a lover of cool music, I recommend you listen to “SURRENDER** by Natalie Taylor.

Talk to a close friend

I’m not the type of person that tells people things that are bothering me, because humans are very terrible; when you’re no longer on good terms, they can use what you told them against you. Then you’ll forever regret ever telling them. That is why I only tell my best friend (just my best friend) things that bother me. If you’re the type that prefers seeing a therapist, then go for it.

Exercise

Source

I don’t mean you should go to the gym and lift heavy things. Well, if it works for you, then go for it. You can just take a short walk around your room. Exercise can be very helpful in a stressful situation. I prefer shadow boxing; it really works for me and I think you should also give it a try.

Take a break

You’re not a machine, you’re human. Take it easy with yourself. Taking a break is important in recovering from stress. Take breaks from work, social media (sometimes social media is the cause of stress), and toxic people. Spend your free time doing the things that make you feel happy.

watch a movie

As a movie lover, I must say this is my best way of coping with stress. Watching comedies help decrease stress levels. Anytime I feel stressed or sad, I watch a movie. When you’re stressed, you tend to get angry, and there is a high possibility of you venting your anger on someone or making irrational decisions that you’d regret later. To avoid this, I watch movies. If you’re the type that likes going to the cinema, then go for it.

** Take yourself out**

Yes. Take yourself out. Go on a date alone (if you love to go with your friends, then go for it). Go to a nice restaurant, buy good food and eat well. If you like swimming, then visit the swimming pool and have fun. Take good care of yourself. You deserve it.

In conclusion

As long as there is life, there is hope. Don’t ever think of giving up. Stay strong and have a positive mindset. Remember you’re not alone.

Taking myself out is fast becoming a tradition for me. I am sure if not for the situation of the country, I would have become addicted to it by now. But that is an expensive addiction😂
Still, I always try my best to do things I know I enjoy because that is what really helps me to stay grounded.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
