My Strength And Weakness As A Young Adult

Hello everyone in the wonderful hive family. I hope you are all doing great. Once again, I’m grateful to the hive learners’ community for their amazing initiatives.

Source

The hive learners’ community has again presented us with another wonderful topic and I’m so glad to be participating in it.

Our strength and weaknesses are what makes us humans. All human beings on earth have their own strength and weaknesses. Even the rich and famous people we have today are not left out. We should not let our weaknesses weigh us down or get the better side of us, neither should we let our strengths get into our heads.

What are your strengths? What are you good at? What are the things that makes us special and unique? These are very good questions we all want to know about ourselves, as well as the next important questions that comes after it; What are your weaknesses? What are you not good at? What is that thing that always weigh you down?

Whether you are a student, a business owner or a worker, it is very important to know yourself; your strength and weaknesses. Finding out what your strength and weaknesses are isn’t something you should do to make yourself feel bad. In fact, discovering your strength and weakness makes you effective in whatever you are doing.

My strengths

Yes! You should be proud of your strengths, but don’t let them get into your head. Our strengths make us unique and special, hence we should not misuse them.
I call this my greatest strength.

Positively minded

Source

I have a lot of strengths, but being positively minded is my greatest strength. Having a positive mindset or a positive attitude, means that you except the best in every situation. You are optimistic about everything that happens around you. You have that mindset that you’ll be able to achieve good things.

I think I inherited this mindset from my mom. Anytime any of my mothers’ children want to do something (maybe an exam or a competition), my mom would always tell us not to think negatively, but to be positive minded. “Don’t say it won’t work. Don’t say you cannot do it. Don’t say you are not up to the task. Even if others did it and fail, be positively minded” she would always say. Her words have sticked to be right from when I was young.
A few years ago, I went for an exam in another state (Very far from where I lived). When I got there, the other candidates there told me I shouldn’t have registered for the examination. They said only 10% pass every year, and those that even pass were the ones that paid a huge sum of money to bribe the examiners. To be sincere, I was scared at first. “Why would I fail? I have read very well and covered all the topic” I said to myself. Lo and behold, when the results came out, I was among the “10%” that passed.
Personally, one of the important steps to achieve something (to succeed) in life is to have a positive mindset. Negativity would only take you backwards. Make efforts and believe in yourself.

Personally, I feel there is a connection between having a positive mindset and happiness. I’m sure a lot of people agree with me on this. When you think positively, surely, you’ll feel happy.

Positive thinking also boosts your self-confidence. When you develop a positive mindset, you’ll start feeling confident in yourself. You will try new things, take on new challenges, and bring the best out of yourself.

Positive thinkers are more focused and thus, they tend to make the right and proper decisions.

How am I able to use my greatest strength to the best of my ability

After I discovered my strength, the best and next step is to make good use/ take good advantage of it. I help myself and I also help others.

My greatest weakness

Source

As I said earlier, we’re not machines. Our mistakes and weaknesses are what makes us humans. We should not be ashamed of our weaknesses; we should rather find a constructive way to control it.

I let failure get the better side of me

Yes, I am positive minded. I’m a very optimistic person. I have this mindset that I’ll aways do well, but not everything works every time. Somethings things don’t go as we planned, and when that happens to me, I always feel very sad. A positive minded person, getting weighed down by failure? It is complicated. I know. But that is just how I am.
During my years in high school, I can’t recall a time I failed a test or an exam (except mathematics. Lol.) Government was one of my best subjects. When I got to SSS3 (Senior Secondary School 3) we wrote a mock exam in preparation of the WAEC (West African Examination Council) examination. I was sure of what I had written and I was not expecting anything less than 90%. You know that feeling you have when you are sure of what you wrote? But when the results came out, I had 70%+. I still got an A, but I was very angry. I went home angrily and thought of it for throughout the night. The next morning, I woke up feeling very sick. Things got worse every hour. The next day, I couldn’t even walk properly. the sickness was very serious that I unable to eat anything for more than 4 days. My mom had to insert drip (intravenous fluid) into my body. I became very skinny and my body started turning white. My mom used to tell her younger ones that she’d have lost me that day. Thankfully, I got better.

The same thing happened when I lost in a chess competition. Although, it was not as serious as that time, but I felt very sad and I fell sick.

I know sometimes we fail to bounce back stronger. But I find it very hard to take in when I fail.

Nice piece. I like the fact that you are positive about things. It's a beautiful trait. I am an overly optimistic person as well. And I think that it's one of the greatest strengths anyone can possess.
I enjoyed your piece mate. Nice one.

Being positive minded is a very thing. With that there's no impossibility, even when everyone is seeing impossibility you'll be seeing the possibility part of it.

But then try as much as possible as to not allow failure weigh you down that much again, at times when we fail we also learn a new way of doing things.

Thanks for much for stopping by and for your thoughtful words of encouragement.

I think the fist step I have to take is to fully agree that failure is a part of human life (though this isn’t very easy for me).

Thanks again.

Ahh... I am glad you have recognized this as a weakness because it means you will be working towards getting better. One thing we have to learn in this life is how to handle failure or the fact that some things will not go our way no matter how hard we try. Feeling bad about it for an extended period of time will only hurt us in the long run.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Yes. The right thing to do is not to hide your weakness, but to find a way to get rid of it.
