The Sad Story Of How My Friend Dropped Out Of School
Hello everyone in the hive blockchain. I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the weather wherever you are. Welcome to my blog.
I woke up quite early today. After brushing and eating, I decided to see a movie and sleep afterward. Just when I was about to carry out my beautiful plan, my parents asked me to wash their clothes. I thought I'd be done in no time, but my siblings did the worst- they added more clothes to it. Well, I spent my day washing clothes, I finished about 1 hour ago.
Life is not a bed of roses. While, many lives are a bed of roses for some people, but for others, it is not. Life is fair and unfair, and most of the time there is nothing to do about it. While some people are born into rich families, with a silver spoon, others are born into poor backgrounds and have to double their hustle. One question I always ask myself is “who are we to blame when things don't go our ways?” those that are born into poor backgrounds, should they blame fate? Or should they blame their parents for giving birth to them.
After washing, I checked the hive learners discord channel and I got a topic idea. An interesting topic indeed- dropout. Have you ever stopped out of school? Or do you know anyone that has dropped out of school due to some reasons? It might be a family member or a friend.
Dropping out of school is not a very easy thing to do. In fact, it is a very big decision. A decision one should think about well. I have heard stories of people who dropped out of school to pursue another dream, and today, they are in better places. There are lots of rich people and even celebrities that dropped out of school. And today, their lives are way better, even than those that completed their education.
Dropping out is a very big risk. What if you drop out and your plan to pursue another dream fails? Just as I've heard stories of people that dropped out and still made it big, I've also heard stories of people who dropped out and returned to zero level. That is why you need to think before you take that big decision of dropping out. Here in my country, there are hundreds of people that dropped out and later returned to the street.
There are various reasons why people drop out. Some drop out to pursue their dreams, but the main reason why people drop out is because of financial problems (there are many reasons why people drop out, but I think this is the main one). I have heard of a story of someone that dropped out because he was bullied and threatened by a gang.
Have I ever dropped out
The short answer is No. Thanks to my parents and siblings and of course to the Almighty, I've not had any reasons to drop out of school. I remember the one and only time I got sent home from school because I didn't pay school fees. That was my only “drop out” experience.
A friend of mine dropped out
After I graduated from high school, I applied for admission in a federal university, sadly I didn’t get it that time (blame Nigeria), so I had to do something else. I applied for a pre-degree program. Well, a pre-degree is a one-year program that prepares students for University exams. So yeah, it is quite a big deal.
I applied for the program and I got in. That was the first time I left my parent's house. I was happy I did because I learned lots of things in the outside world. I had lots of hostel mates, but I was close to just one of them -a girl.
She grew up in a rich family. Her father had everything, well, he had a hospital. Her family was doing well. Sadly, her dad passed away after she graduated high school, her uncles (from her father's side) took over everything. Everything. Her mum had to go back to the village to her mum (with her kids).
As the firstborn of her family, she had to leave home to feed everyone. She had siblings to take care of. She started working. She became a workaholic. A big one. She became the head of the family. Who says a woman can't handle a family? She did everything well.
There was no one supporting her. She paid her school fees herself. She passed the pre-degree exams and even gained admission into the university. But sadly, she had to drop out, even before matriculation. She gained admission into the university at 25 years old. I saw her portal “congratulations, you have been offered admission to study……” But she sent me a message saying she has to drop out because of her siblings.
She got a job that paid well. Sadly, the job was in another state and she wouldn't be able to handle school and work at the same time.
Life's unfair. Be grateful if you're happy.

This is soooo true.
The most common reason when you ask dropouts is lack of funds. There are others that just feel school is too overwhelming or the opportunity to travel abroad comes and they decide to abandon it all.
And just like you said, it's a two way thing. One has to be very sure what one is leaving school for is worthy enough.
