THE MEMORY KEEPER

As customers converse and baristas diligently work behind the counter, the air is filled with the scent of freshly brewed coffee. EVELYN, a mysterious woman in her early 40s who conceals a world of secrets behind the twinkle in her eyes, is seated at a corner table. She is lost in thought as she sips her coffee.

Enters ADAM, a young journalist with an interest in the subject, a notebook in his hand, and a voice that sounds desperate.

ADAM:
(excitedly)! It is nice to see you once more. I've been wanting to inquire about the Recall project for a long time. You're said to be able to remember everything.

EVELYN:
(with a smirk) Do you remember everything? Adam, that is a bold assertion. However, I do have a special talent. For me, memories never seem to go away.

Amazing! ADAM (taking a seat) How does it feel to be able to access an endless supply of memories?

Sincerely, EVELYN: My friend, it's a double-edged sword. At times, it can be overwhelming to carry every memory, every happiness, and every sorrow. In any case, it likewise gives me a point of view not many can fathom.

ADAM (astonished) Evelyn, elaborate please, how does it function? Is each memory as vivid as the others?

EVELYN (leaning forward) explains that each memory has its own hue and intensity, as if they were colored by the feelings that were present at the time. Some memories are etched in my mind like vivid colors, while others are like faded pastels that linger in the corners and await discovery.

Can you recall your earliest memory?(ADAM asked curiously)

EVELYN guffaws, "Oh, I can." It's a touching memory of a sunny afternoon. When I was three, I was playing in the garden of my grandmother. She showed me how to plant seeds and nurture life from the ground up, filling the air with the scent of roses. I fell in love with nature then.

ADAM (astonished) That sounds lovely. However, Evelyn, what about the traumatic memories? the ones that everyone tries to forget?

EVELYN (seriously) Ah, the traumatic past. Time is said to heal all wounds, but it does not completely remove scars. Broken dreams, heartbreak, and loss are all things I remember. They teach us to cherish the present and not take life's blessings for granted, as well as serve as reminders of our resilience.

ADAM (pondering) So, Evelyn, do these memories make you wiser?

EVELYN
(reclining, intelligent)
Astuteness comes from recollecting as well as from understanding. I am able to see patterns, connections, and the cyclical nature of life when I recall memories. For better or worse, it gives me a better understanding of the human experience.

Evelyn, you're like a living time capsule, ADAM (with admiration). Your memory serves as a window into both your own and the collective past.

EVELYN (growling) Maybe, Adam. But keep in mind that memories are brittle. They require affection, care, and sharing. They help us to remember our common humankind, associating us in manners we can't necessarily in all cases understand.

ADAM (grateful) Evelyn, thank you. This discussion has opened my eyes. I now know how powerful memories are and how important it is to recall them.

EVELYN (as she gets up from her seat): Adam, keep in mind that life is a tapestry of moments in which each thread tells a story that is worth remembering. Because they define who you are and who you can become, embrace your memories.

Adam, seduced by Evelyn's words, begins to frantically scribble in his notebook as they exchange a warm smile as she leaves. Her presence lingers.

The characters are clearly delineated, and their entanglement genuinely enthralled me. It's an exquisite creation that plunges into the splendor, difficulties, and import of reminiscences in our existences.

Wow I've also learnt something new like Adam did from Evelyn about memories.

I like how the conversation went, so many questions from Adam but Evelyn seem so okay giving answers to all of it and even in better ways.

Nicely written 🙌

Age brings experience, memories lived, moments that marked life and shaped character. A very nice chat between the two characters and a hint of attraction.

Thanks for sharing.
