A Family Of Squatters πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§ ASEAN Hive Community Challenge πŸͺ‘πŸš« Where Do You Squat?

I couldn't help it, I had to join this challenge just for fun, and of course the host won't be declaring himself the winner πŸ˜‰.

🧼 The Dishwashing Squatter

SQUATER.PNG

Β  Β  Β Squatting is something that most Southeasts can do and do often for various reasons. Most of my American counterparts back in the USA are so big and round and/or inflexible that they tip over like bowling pins when trying to do it. My family and I have to squat every day for various reasons, whether it be washing dishes or even just eating bread and looking at the river, as you'll see in just a bit.

🌿 Herb Collecting

CHEE.PNG

Β  Β  Β It's hard to take a squatting selfie, so I thought of a typical squatting location for me and asked my wife to snap a pic. There is a patch of sawtooth coriander near the highway, and I often go there to squat and pinch blades from various plants within arms' reach.

πŸ₯– Whitewater Baguette Squat

DEWSW.PNG

Β  Β  Β I found my wife having an all natural squat not intended for this challenge, just enjoying the bottom of a baguette and watching the whitewater flow past. I then asked her for a couple "staged squats."

🌹 Stop & Squat The Flowers

CHEE.PNG

Β  Β  Β This shot was 100% my wife's idea. She wanted me to take a pic of her squatting and smelling her potted roses, and of course I obliged.

πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“ Monkey-B's Scholarly Squat

MONKEY.PNG

Β  Β  Β Monkey-B likes to squat when studying at her mini desk. Well, she was supposed to be studying, but I found her drawing pictures with markers, and that accounts for the cheeky smile. "Get back to work Monkey-B, you've got unfinished assignments from your teacher!"

I will find people squatting and taking this challenge and this is something I see often when people want to squat and have done any activity whether they are doing strenuous activity or relaxing and this squat activity is common in my place, it is there it's good that you take pictures of your family who are squatting and they see them smiling and squatting activities also look natural and as you said maybe people in America are rarely done there but in southeast asia and also in my place things like this have become an activity that people usually do.

Very true, I always ask my friends and family to try it every time I visit the USA, and 50% of people fall over like bowling pins 🎳😁.

It's funny because I notice how Thai people and Indonesians can hold this squat position for what seems like forever. Since I spent most of my life not doing this, it starts to hurt my legs almost immediately and I certainly couldn't hold the position long enough to wash all the dishes. I would eventually just have to sit down next to the bowl :)

"Since I spent most of my life not doing this..."

Yes, this! We squatted as children to dig in the dirt with sticks or watch a bug crawling on the ground. It was easy-peasy then! I squatted, briefly, for a minute or two at a time in my 20s, 30s, 40s, to retrieve something from a bottom-drawer or to pick up shards of a broken glass from the floor. But that was it. Then in my 50s and 60s when knee problems began, it hurts to squat, even for a minute or two. So, I'd be sitting down next to the bowl to wash dishes, too, and then probably would have trouble getting up again... πŸ˜† Or better yet, standing to do it with the dishpan on top of a barrel or something... πŸ˜‰

I have seen the opposite problem here too, too much squatting is not good, and although this only affects the older generations that lived through harder times, I've seen plenty of people stuck in a squatting position, and even when walking can't fully straighten out their back.

I think I'd rather be stuck straight than stuck in a squat if I had to choose. Your comment does remind me one of the near future projects is to make a proper kitchen with running water when we get a tank on top of the house.

It's always comical when I show folks back home how to squat and hang out, and inevitably someone tries and becomes an upside down turtle immediately. I think the baseball catchers would be the most suited westerners for squatting 😁. I can go about 10-15 minutes before I need to walk around and let the blood flow return to the legs.

Respect to those without knee problems who can squat! And perhaps by continuing to do it frequently, you won't have knee problems as you age, who knows...?!?!?

I hope that's the idea, stay moving and stay flexible, but too much squatting has its own problems too.

I can't squatting for a long time because of my weight gain 5555 and I try to avoid squatting like this too. 😊

I think it's something very common outside the urban areas here in Southeast Asia, but I also a lot of squatting in the Balkans when I lived in Albania, and I know it's common in Africa and the Middle East also.

Haha, these are brilliant. I like how you played with it. I'm not large, personally, so squatting is a feasibility, but I'll admin, I do like me a good chair.

A popular product here is the squatting stool, a blend of both. They're most common with street vendors who wander the sidewalks carrying a mobile restaurant on their back. When you want some spring rolls, sometimes the vendor will provide you a plastic mini squat stool while they whip up whatever specialty you've ordered. We have squat stools for doing laundry and gardening, very convenient even if only 2 inches off the ground.

Darn, I missed this!

I got good at squatting through gardening, when I'm weeding but the ground is too wet to sit on or I don't want to sit on ants. My legs go dead after a bit, though. I can vouch that it's helped me with my climbing as I can get my leg up behind me to make climbs others can't do this way. I'm not very strong, so I use any technique that helps. πŸ˜‰

Did you have a favourite entry from this?

There was a really lovely entry from @jenthoughts, full of gardening squats like you mentioned.

Legs going to sleep is typical, even most Cambodians won't squat more than 10 minutes without taking a short walk and returning to the position. My favorite are the squatting stools, so useful to have a stool that's only two inches off the ground, but I never see them for sale in western countries.

Those are some perfect squats from the family. Yours is pretty natural too. But as a born male squatter, I got an #nsfw advise, make necessary adjustment first before committing a low tight squat in skinny jeans, especially 501 cuttings. It is important to make sure the center of jeans being at the split between the... Ahem... Eggs, so you don't crush them. Even if the pants has elasticity, you don't want someone take a photo of you squatting with the eggsack outlined by the pants. Just like female doesn't want a camel toe shot unless did it on purpose. It's almost 2 weeks old post, I guess it's pretty safe to make this comment here πŸ€ͺ

Haha, I stopped wearing 501s for that very reason, too constrictive for me, especially the thighs. Squatting and skinny jeans will never be friends, at least not PG-rated friends. Awesome comment, I laughed out loud, then my oldest daughter came rushing to my screen, saw the word "camel toe" before I clicked into another tab, but now she's asking me about it, will have to show her a pic of a larger midwestern American women in tights instead of explaining it πŸ˜‰.
