Picking The @KidSisters Up From School 🛺 & Some Signs The Sun Still Exists 🌦️

DRIVIN.png

I took a few pictures of my trip to pick up the @kidsisters from school today, as well as a few shots of the beautiful river.

A Beautiful Commute 🛺

I'm slowly getting used to the fact that even though it's not the rainy season yet in Cambodia, it might always be rainy season here in Steung Kach. We're not only close to the Gulf of Thailand, but high in the mountains, so I think that's why we catch so much rainfall. No matter, what by the time I reach Thmor Da where the @kidsisters study, the weather feels hot, dry and oppressive.

A Quick Change Of Clothes 🎽

Monkey-B and Srey-Yuu usually ride to school in the morning with our neighbor on his motorcycle, and it's quite chilly in the morning, so her solution is to wear athletic clothes under her public school uniform and rip it off like a superhero when she gets in the tuk-tuk. I've told that her raincoat would be an easier solution because it will also block the wind, and she just rolls her eyes at me and let's me know raincoats are for the rain.

Run For The Hills 🏃‍♀️

Knowing that Srey-Yuu is not a fan of photos, I knew I'd get a good natural shot if I snapped a picture before she looked up. Indeed I was right, I managed to catch her mid-stride running around the corner to break free from the schoolgrounds. With Srey-Yuu onboard, we headed back to the mountains as usual. As soon as we begin to gain altitude, it's usually back to clouds rain, and fog.

A Sunny River, A Rare Treat 🏞️

348.png

When we got home I told the girls we have to swim today because it's been too many weeks of constant rain. The river was also a bit clear because of the lack of rain for a day or so, and you can see the little cold pool I've been building. There is a creek across from us that joins the main river in our backyard, and this water is usually colder and cleaner, so this little mini pool often still has clear water even when the river is running brown.

I am still in disbelief of the beauty of our surroundings, but this is home. I left my phone in the hammock hut and we crossed the river to explore the creek further upstream, but my wife put her camera in a plastic bag and documented this adventure, so stay tuned for that.

Do you know the legal name of @themarkymark ???? It is needed to contact his local police station. Any information to his whereabouts would be much appreciated.

What's going on? A pouty face Monkey B and a smiling action shot of Srey-Yu.

I'm so glad you got to this paradise and didn't settle in 'Merica.

Monkey-B plays hard at school, so she's usually 100% drained when she climbs in the tuk-tuk. We're glad we settled here too, but I hate that after 12 years here, I haven't even had one visitor. Even now in our new awesome place, none of my friends in Cambodia have bothered to reach out to us or come visit. I think we "metaphorically died" in Suriname, and even though Cambodia is home, it feels like we are starting all over again, socially, financially, and many more "ly"s.

That really is such a beautiful part of the world you have, despite the rain. Your little pool is looking good. A tranquil spot for a bath.

It is, and when we can eventually afford it, I'd love to build a mini cabin near the river and call that home. Waking up to a morning swim would be about as good as it gets.

Sir I like your meter show. It still can go for more 😅

Haha, on flat ground it can only go 67km/h, but the motor is screaming at that speed. I can drive it all day at 55 to 60km/h, and occasionally hit 65 to pass cars or go downhill for a moment. It is more than fast enough for me 😃.

Your journey Not different from the district I live in (rural areas of the province) to Mueang districts (city areas) of Chiang Mai province. I have to bring my son who is an autistic child Go see a doctor at a specialized hospital. in the city at a distance of 150 kilometers.

Wow, that is a long drive. For us to get to the provincial capital, it is nearly 150km, but Pursat, our capital is very underdeveloped compared to the rest of the Cambodia. To Phnom Penh it is 300km+, so that's why we'd love to see the Thai border open soon. Trat has all the modern things we need, but we'll have to wait until after September for hopes of being able to drive to Trat for shopping, errands, doctor, etc.
