🥟 Samosas, 🍮 Banana Pudding, 🪵 The Deck Is Done(ish), 👨‍🍳 & Domestic Daily Life Yo'

I've been meaning to post for a couple of days but cooking, cleaning, and fathering have left me with little time outside my ASEAN Hive duties.

🍌 Banana Harvest Leads To Banana Madness 🤪

xdxdx.png

cdvfbg.png

A couple our banana trees have produced ripe fruit at similar times, so we have been swimming in bananas lately. They would've gone bad before could've ate them all, so I sliced and froze at least 40 of them. I only recently remembered the frozen banana stash, so I blended them with a bit of coconut and soymilk, and bing, bang, boom, instant tasty dessert.

xdxdx.png

As usual with anything I prepare in the kitchen, Monkey-B is the first in the room and declares herself chief taster. When the bananas frozen beforehand and no ice is used, after blending the texture is exactly like a Frostie, something from the Wendy's fast-food chain I used to enjoy when I was young. It's not quite a smoothie nor is it ice cream, and it's kind of pudding-ish.

🌧️ Rain Dance Needed 🕺

vfvfvfv.png

It has barely rained in last 3 months, and although it's allowed us to do construction at a pretty fast rate, there have also been countless wildfires all around us, and surely hundreds of thousands of acres of virgin forest have been lost. It's the norm here in Cambodia though, and zero efforts were made to contain the fires, and in fact potential future land ownership makes destroying the national park and wildlife sanctuary a priority for both wealthy and working class Cambodians alike. The sad part is the land is usually sold to fund gambling debts, and then the cycle repeats itself with the Cambodian forest being sacrificed in order to keep a foreign-owned casino thriving.

cdcdcddc.png

We need rain more than ever to both put out the fires and improve the air quality. The deck is done other than running rope through the holes and staining it. The stain will have to wait because we need to spend nearly $50 on a 20-liter bucket to get a good price, but hopefully within a few weeks the deck will be stained, then perhaps I will stretch a UV fabric above the deck to give it a bit of shade during the afternoon sun.

A Walk To The Cabin 🛖

asxcd.png

Looking to add a few more pics to the post to give it some body, I walked over to the cabin to see what the wife and Monkey-B were doing. I found my wife working on her flower garden which happens to contain mostly plants we've taken from the forest across the river.

cvcvc.png

Around the corner I found a pensive Monkey-B thinking about the meaning of life. I don't actually know what she was thinking about, probably Harry Potter or ice cream, but she did look quite pensive. Our fence is nearly done and I can now envision guests thoroughly enjoying their time here on our property. I only have a little over a month left before my visa determines I must leave Cambodia for a bit. I will visit my family in the USA because I don't think they will ever come here to visit, nor will my Cambodian family ever get a US visa, so thank you world governments for creating a series of archaic laws before I was born and without my consent that create these circumstances.

Monkey-B looks very serious at the last picture. And i love her energy as the chief taster.

She is definitely supportive to this chef, and that makes cooking for her all the more enjoyable 😁👨‍🍳

Being Asean , I love Desi Food like Samosas. I don't have a good experience for Pudding, might be its taste buds will be absent from my tongue 😢.

I am so glad my family loves samosas because I make them often. They are a common snack in Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Brunei, but here in Cambodia there are no samosas to be found outside of South Asian restaurants in a few of the bigger cities. Thanks for stopping by my friend.

Home is taking on shape, deck looks a good place to relax!

Man made borders and laws are tedious to say the least when trying to live a settled life in peace.

Thank you my friend, it's quite nice to see the project through to completion. The Thai border opens on the 1st of next month, so this is an exciting prospect because rarely does human movement across these imaginary lines become easier.

Being able to move freely between countries sure will help. Have a great day and keep well.

The new hut will look impressive I'm sure. The rain, don't ask for it. You know it very well, in a month or two when the monsoon sets in, you're gonna shit your pants through your pee hole.

The pensive monkey shot was marvelous.

You're right, and each day lately I have been watching the clouds creep farther and farther past the mountaintops, it's just a matter of time before all the wildfires are extinguished and we're scraping the clay off the bottoms of our shoes.

I believe this recipe is so delicious my dear friend. We also have a similar recipe here in the Philippines and we call it as banana fritter. By the way, Monkey-B is so cute and I see that she is enjoying as she feel liked a chef on her own. Have a nice day and more delicious foods to cook as always. Beat regards from Ph.

Oh yes, I know fritters, we have them back in the USA too. These samosas are savory, full of Indian spices and a potato-green peas mixture. I eagerly await the day when my daughters cook spicy treats for me 😁.

Awww, I am interested about it my dear friend. Hehe. You know fritters are economical recipe here in my country. Many vendors are selling it in school, in streets or even at sidewalks for being an affordable snack. By the way, I so love Indian menus especially the Indian curry too and more. More delicious recipe to cook and have a nice day!

It looks like monkey-b was enjoying the banana.

I hope the government will find ways to avoid the occurence of the wildfires. Keep safe!

I guess her nickname and a love of bananas go hand-in-hand 😁. Unfortunately the government here is complicit in the wildfires because once the forest is gone the government usually sells off the land to friends of the PM and other bigshots. It's sad to witness the loss of nature like this, but it is what the country wants, and as a foreigner with zero rights, not even the right to land ownership or residency after 13 years here, it's not my place to become an activist as much as I'd like to.

So nice to see that the deck was finally done, and it really a great place to relax and unwind.
And the food looks so delicious, it so nice to know that a simple banana could turn into something more special 🤗♥️

I was worried about not putting a roof on it, but I think even though it rains a lot here it will be nice to have at least one outdoor space with no roof so that we can enjoy the stars and sky in the evenings. I don't know why bananas are delicious when frozen, and even when not blended I still love to eat sliced frozen bananas, perhaps I am part monkey.

Potato and pea mixture is the classic samosa, but more and more I prefer cabbage-onion-poha samosas. It's a shame we didn't have any chutney on this day 😆.

They are delicious, just google samosas and you'll find plenty of recipes. Some day I will share my recipe when I have time to make a proper post about these delicious treats.

To think that some get the visa without much stress, because they have money. Really unfair.

On another note, the progress of the deck has come a long way and that smoothie/pudding like dessert is looking appetizing. Who knew something so delicious could be made with so little ingredients.

Yes, as hard of a time we had in Suriname, I really like the fact there is a government office to assist illegal aliens in becoming legal. I was surprised to see such an openness to migrants and immigrants with just proof of income, a clean criminal record, and an address. The marriage paperwork here in Cambodia costs more than our whole path towards citizenship in Suriname would've cost, and I can only blame government corruption for that.

When a country needs more hands to built the country, the state can't be picky I suppose hahaha. But I understand, Suriname has been very welcoming to Haitians, Guyanese, Brazilians, Cubans and Chinese migrants since I can remember.
