Steung Kach's Youngest Bicycle Mechanic πŸ‘©β€πŸ”§ Podcast Forts 🏰 & Cambodian Lawnmowing πŸ₯·

Monkey-B didn't believe I could pop a wheelie, so I showed her how it's done and reminded her to keep tires inflated to prevent rim damage.

Pre-Wheelie Podcast Fort 🏰

Β  Β  Β Rewind a bit before the thumbnail, and today's first moment of Hive-worthy content was Monkey-B's podcast listening fort. She likes to create a world for herself and really goes deep into her mind when listening to podcasts, and I think this activity is so much healthier than watching a screen. Don't get me wrong, this little one would never turn down an opportunity to watch some cartoons, but I try and restrict this stuff to 30 minutes or less a day, but I am very generous with screen time for audiobooks and podcasts.

Grass Is The Enemy πŸ₯·

Β  Β  Β After marveling at Monkey's fort, I made some fried okra and tomato curry for the family, did some ASEAN Hive work, and then went outside to mow the yard with my state of the art human arm. A recent snake encounter inside our house let me know it was time to knock back the grass on our property and make slithery creatures a little more unwelcome. Plus, this place is pretty biodiverse and the antivenom scene here is less than desirable, so it's even more hopeful to get antivenom for rare and endangered species.

Β  Β  Β Mowing on the cliffside is extremely scary due the snake situation, the steepness of the slope combined with a sharp blade, the slick clay underneath, and worst of all is the trimmed bamboo that sticks out of the ground ready to skewer me like a human shish-kebab should I go skiing down the slope atop a mat of dried dead grass.

Bicycle Maintenance 101 πŸ‘©β€πŸ”§

nbv.png

Β  Β  Β After seeing I was clearly exhausted, Monkey-B asked me to pop a wheelie on her little bike, so I showed her how it's done, and in the process realized she hasn't been keeping her tires inflated. A short lesson about rim damage and rolling resistance, and she was eager to pump her tires up.

Teenager Tries To Ruin Photo πŸ’― Only Makes It Better

nbvvvv.png

Β  Β  Β I found the missus and Srey-Yuu chilling on the boulder together, and they looked so cute together, I wanted to snap a pic, but the teenager decided to get goofy and try to ruin the photo, but little does she know I love these shots even more, so she better she's not embarrassed to share this side of herself with Hive.

More Lawnmowing & A Surprise For The Girls 🎁

mmmnnnn.png

Β  Β  Β After popping plenty of wheelies, it was time to cut some more grass until reaching exhaustion. Monkey-B watched from above, likely wishing the two of us were swimming instead.

cxcx.png

Β  Β  Β This was easily the best shot of the day, Monkey-B's lust for life and joy are infectious, and I live vicariously through her and the way she takes in the world around her.

nbvcx.png

Β  Β  Β I wish I had taken some pictures of the truck that passed by on the highway, it was full of random goods for the home. These mobile sellers are really common in Cambodia, and you can kit out a home without ever leaving your porch here if you wanted to. We have been waiting for some rattan furniture to pass by for months, and finally today the truck had a few pieces. A little over $5 each, we purchased 3 of them, 1 for the cabin and two for the kids' room. They finally have some furniture that is not also luggage, and they are keen to organize each of their "whatever these things are called, my English has gone downhill consistently year after year."

You sure like to live on the edge ;<)

Your daughters seem happy with their furniture and podcasts and audiobooks rock. Also you can rest your eyes, while you listen.

Wish we had a pic of your wheelie!

Haha, I am extreme(ly) middle-aged athlete πŸ€”. Monkey-B has taken after me I guess and wants to keep her eyes and hands free to do other tasks, and big sister too, we are all not screen watchers because it takes away so much useful potential time. Strangely enough though, Monkey-B likes to read a Harry Potter book while listening to a podcast about something else.

I don't know how she does it because I don't have that kind of focus. When I am busy working on Hive, I only listen to light podcasts that don't require intense listening. After hours though, Srey-Yuu now likes listening to true crime and mystery podcasts with me, and these really put her English listening and vocabulary skills to the test.

your story is very interesting today, what do you say that grass is our closest enemy around the house, if the rungs have grown tall around our house then it can happen to the arrival of a dangerous guest, namely a snake, or other types of mammals that venomous,

and I pay attention to the knife or sickle that you use to clean the grass, it's almost the same as the tool I use when harvesting oil palm fruit, if the sickle or knife is sharpened with a sharp water stone, then our work will be easy because the knife is already sharp,

and you tell me again in this post that you have to clean the grass on the slopes of the hills and slippery clay, it's very dangerous to use a knife or something sharp like that, therefore we have to be more vigilant and careful when we work using sharp objects, because safety comes first when we work..

You're right, the stone is the best tool to sharpen the sickle, but I can't find mine for over two weeks, so I've been using a steel file to keep it sharp. The steel file works well, but not as good as my stone.

Every time I cut on the hillside, I pray and hope I do not slide and become a kebab when I get stabbed by the bamboo 🀣.

Or if you erect a drain system surrounding the house, will that help to keep grass growing into your house? That should also "inform" the snakes to keep out.

I don't do wheelie, but I do stopped. Especially like the one that sway the back wheel in the air and turn 180' . But ofcourse I paid that skill with several broken nose before I truly master it decades ago.

The rattan furniture is display shelf?

We sometimes get lazy with the grass cutting, and when tall grass is growing near the house, it's like an open invitation for snakes.

The rattan shelves are for the girls because they have no furniture in their room, only suitcases πŸ˜‰. Sounds like you we could've been BMX bros in the 80s, my favorite movie was "Rad" when I was a kid. It's a must see vintage American classic.

Exactly! That movie play a big part influencing me because my brother took me to his friend's house and watch that VHS 🀣 I need to rewatch that, back then I no England speaking, but the crazy stunt in that show manage to penetrate my little brain 😁

Thanks for naming that show. I've tried googling for 80s bicycle show many years ago, and the fucker gave me supergran πŸ™„ now I know what went wrong, should have specified BMX

Without mobile vendors life would be much harder here. Perhaps in the future I can make a wheelie GIF, seems Hive would probably like that.
