Drawing up a new Profile Pic!

It's been ages since I updated my profile picture. Before Hive came about, on the other blockchain I had a nifty blue profile picture that kind of matched the aesthetic going on over there, but then when we moved over here I just threw a random selfie together and made it a reddish colour.

Pretty boring, but it worked. 🤷‍♀

But! A few months ago I got a new graphics tablet! Surely I could draw something a lot better to serve as a new digital avatar!

I had all of these ideas in my head. Caricature type things, doodlings involving the hive logo, comical me strapped to a plummeting rocket into the sea... but nothing was quite coming out how I wanted it to. Finally, I just started sketching. I wasn't too fussed about the sketch so didn't bother with layers and things until the end when I realised I liked where it was going.

As always when I'm just sketching randomly, I started with an eye. 👀 I don't know what it is about eyes! Back in the day, when I was at school, I would doodle in my notebooks of course, as you do. And it was always eyes. Eyes and swords. Or just tribal swirly whirly things.

But I loved eyes!

Before I knew it, I was drawing a face. And that's when the faint glimmer of an idea finally formed. I still wasn't sure if I was actually drawing a "keeper" yet, but I just kept on it.

All the attempted drawings before were also faces. But more cartoonish, comical, and gazing up at the sky or something. I didn't really like them. Most of them looked sad when I wanted them to look amazed. I really need to work on expressions.

I mostly halved it because I'm rubbish at symmetry. But THIS is when I was like, "Hang on... I know just what to do."

But I still didn't care about layers.

My idea was going to try and mix the sketch together with more sketchiness.

But as I started colouring it, I realised I would need just one more layer for the skin colouring otherwise I'd be in for a painful time.

Soon things were coloured nicely, but it felt as though something were missing...

Something to break up things a little bit, of course!! Hair!

And then, things were complete.

I cut it into a square and uploaded it... and.... hive.blog updated it straight away! And it seems that Ecency did also... But it took a hell of a long time before peakd updated it. 👀 I didn't want to submit this post until it had been updated and I was just waiting, refreshing, waiting, refreshing, over and over. 😅 (and even at this moment previous posts still have my old one.)

I feel like I'm getting better with drawing on the tablet, but still no-where near good enough to start drawing a comic just yet.

I know that I can only improve with time and practice and that there are several other comics out there that started off looking as though they were drawn by a 5-year-old only to end up looking like masterpieces now... and I'm not expecting mine to look like a masterpiece at all!

But if it could at least look like it was drawn by a 13-year-old instead, that would be great. 😅
