New World ...and now we get to some criticism!

Words cannot express how disappointed I am that I cannot go into first person mode and take beautiful screenshots of this beautiful game. πŸ˜…

I'm not alone. I ended up searching to see if there was any possible way I could go into first person mode, maybe I had missed something in the settings or something, but alas, there is no way and there are quite a few people asking for the feature simply to take pretty screenshots.

4.png

It's an MMO, thus I can't imagine actually playing in first person -- I once witnessed someone playing SWTOR in first person, and, I just couldn't handle it. You need to see everything in an MMO!! -- but the option to zoom in and admire the scenery would be fantastic.

1.png

I'm also disappointed that the gear pictured in the above screenshot clips terribly.

I haven't really been focusing on levelling, more the crafting and gathering side of things, but I find myself nearing level 40 regardless and I also found myself in dire need of new clothing.

In order to obtain new clothing, did I spend my hard earned gold on the trading post? Of course not! I went out and farmed copious upon copious amounts of fibre and rawhide and transformed them into linen and coarse leather. Then I transformed those into sateen and rugged leather. And then I transformed the sateen into silk!

And then... I discovered that even with all that farming, after refining the materials into what I needed I really did not have much at all, so set out to do it all again.

Finally, after several, several hours, I had all that I needed to make some new gear. I had the option to make a pretty silk dress and some things to accompany it, or the option to make some witchy wares. Obviously I chose witchiness.

2.png

Unfortunately the robe of the witchy attire was hooded and the hood clipped through my person's head. So I unhid my helm! Only to find that now the hood was clipping through my new witch's hat.

It looks ridiculous and I hope they fix this clipping issue. Undoubtedly it'll be affecting other attire also.

The gloves are bad too. Not because they clip or anything, but because it's part of a set and they don't "go" together. 🀣

6.png

What else can I whinge about?

Oh! Spawn timers! The spawn timers in this game are mental.

It will take 10 minutes for something to finally show up, a group of people who have been impatiently waiting will descend upon it, you only get one hit in so it doesn't count your effort toward the kill, and so! You have to wait 10 minutes again!

Then the pendulum swings and sometimes you'll kill something, and before you can run off, it respawns and punches you in the back of the head. So you kill it again. And it'll respawn again. Eurgh.

Back to the first point. The Elder Scrolls Online had the SAME problem. You literally couldn't be a healer or tank when fighting world bosses because you didn't do enough damage to "qualify" for a reward at the end. It's stupid, and I hope they change it.

3.png

Speaking of crazy-arse mobs, allow me to shriek about the insane amount of people who will run through areas infested with creatures and ignore said creatures.

Oh look. Here's little old me in an unrelated area that's been cleared of enemies. Oh look. I'm opening a chest just as this person runs past with 50 odd mobs chasing him.

Oh look...

Because they ran past at the exact moment I opened a chest, now I have the aggro of every single mob that was chasing that lunatic. And I die. And I proceed to swear beneath my breath at the audacity of that person. I guess it's a good thing I've turned off the inbuilt voice chat in this game. πŸ˜‚

7.png

Another thing I'd like to whinge about is the sheer amount of STUNS in this game.

I get that they consider it an integral part of the game mechanics, but it pisses me off. Getting staggered, stunned, knocked down, unable to do anything more often than you should be, is just lazy "difficulty" scaling.

It doesn't matter if you dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge. The enemy AI will just know which way you're going and stop you just as you finish your dodge animation. Pain. In. The. Butt. I think it's because I'm a healer. Despite my threat lessening gems glued onto my clothes, they spin away from others and stun the hell out of me.

ALSO. It would be nice if we could cancel our attack animation to block or dodge. As it is I'll be casting, see something about to happen, try to block, but can't because I'm casting. πŸ™„

5.png

While I'm onboard S.S. Whinge-a-lot, I would like to reiterate my displeasure for the insane taxes and the fact pets are considered furniture and not friends.

TAXES! I've resigned myself to going back to Everfall and getting even more territory standing with them, just for the occasional chance at my next territory perk being a decrease in property tax.

I get the taxes. All games need a money-sink in which to keep things flowing nicely. But dayum. Considering the main way of making money in this game is playing about with the various Trading Posts, I really hope the economy does well and doesn't just fizzle out into everything being worth 0.02 gold each.

I like to think that that's happening at the moment simply because of the amount of people playing, gathering, crafting right now, and as they all get higher level things will equal out.

Seriously. For example. It takes a long time to get your jewelcrafting to an acceptable level and to find and make gemstones of a pristine quality. And you know what? I kind of want my necklaces to be worth more than 10g each.

8.png

And the chat! I complained about this in the beta and I'm still complaining about it now. The chat window leaves a lot to be desired.

It bugs out half the time, especially in Expeditions. Half the time I don't even know if my group is talking because the chat is severely lagged. The chat defaults to "Global" when I like to keep it set on either "Area" or "Group" depending on what I'm doing.

chattttt.png

AND it just looks gumby. AND you can't just type /whisper whatshisface to private message someone. ARGH. You have to select Direct Message (or type /direct message), type in the person's name, then send the message. They could have standardised this so much better.

ALSO. Whose design choice was it to have the person's dialogue first, then their name in little writing beneath the message? Fire that person.

9.png

In saying all of the above though, I am immensely enjoying my time in this game.

I see a lot of people whinging about all the walking required and how there are no mounts, but that doesn't really bother me. If I had a mount in this game, I probably wouldn't even be using it because there are just so many nodes to gather. The only time I used my mount in Elder Scrolls Online was in Cyrodiil PvP, getting from one fort to the next. The rest of the time I was on foot, gathering.

I also see a lot of people complaining that there isn't enough enemy variety. It's a low fantasy "real" game set in the 17th century. It's not going to be all elves and fairies and dragons. There are going to be wolves, bears, cougars, pigs, turkeys and bunnies. Be pleased that there are also zombies, skeletons, and corrupted creatures roaming amongst reality.

I'm sure there are other things being complained about too, but I'm not really listening. πŸ˜† I'm in my own little bubble, enjoying my new game, and occasionally screeching at other players who dare cross my path.

Β

Until next time! 😁

I've been considering the game for a while now but I decided to not just get it. The more I read about it the less I feel I'll like it. So far it doesn't have any appealing aspects to me. And the armor looks pretty crappy.

(Edited)

For me, the appeal is in the brand new open world to explore that really is akin to a "new world."

I love being able to gather every resource possible, to craft everything, to buy a house and create my own furniture for it as well as find special furniture items. Being able to wander from town to town and play the Trading Post game!

I can choose to be a gatherer, a crafter, a jack of all trades or to specialise in one. Or I can ignore it all and just do normal Dungeons and general MMO content. The game was mostly focused on PvP with the wars and territory claiming, and if you defeat another player you can loot their items.

I'm not really into that kind of dangerous PvP so remain unflagged. But I like the idea of being in the wars and helping contribute towards territory claiming. Except you can only have 50 people on each team and every time there is a war over 300 odd people sign up to join it so most people get knocked back. 😞

I've been enjoying this game too. 34 hours of playtime so far.

Woo 😁 Glad you've been enjoying it! I find the gathering in this game very therapeutic and a couple of hours pass by before I know it.

I think it's an old mechanic but people are still talking about it, from the beta.

Apparently if you kill people now, depending on how long they've been alive before you kill them, a loot bag should drop with increasingly better items. But not actually their stuff! It used to be their stuff way back in early beta. I think.

I've read a lot of differing things about the PvP πŸ˜… since so many people were angry that it had changed so people were allowed to unflag themselves.
