Playing Palworld!

avatar

A few days ago I wrote all about my first impressions with the new early access title Palworld — aka "Pokemon but with guns!" — and established how it's just so much more than just a meme-game like some people are calling it.

For example, you don't even get guns until further in the game! You don't even have to use them if you don't want to, though I don't see why you wouldn't. There are chickens that poop grenades. Foxes that become a flamethrower. Sheep-shields. The whole thing is an amazing laugh and if you don't see the joy in a cute creature firing off it's own personal minigun... I don't know what to tell you.

I started a single-player game after playing multiplayer with my friend's group, and I've learnt a lot more about the game now... but, now that we all know what we're doing a bit more, my friends are resetting their server and we're all starting from scratch.

I'm fine with that! I want to play with them and not by myself. It's just the whole being in a guild thing really ruined my playstyle. I won't be joining the guild this time 'round.

I also learnt that there is a Guild window that I never bothered looking at before, and it turns out that you can 'leave' a guild. xD

Ah well. Doesn't matter now. It's time to do this all again!

I was the first one to hop onto the server after it had been reset, and I knew exactly where I wanted to go. On the easiest island of the archipelago, where there is flora and fauna galore, where a river and waterfall flow, there is a nice patch of flat land, berry bushes, stone, the pal ore, and a metal ore deposit.

Everything respawns, unless you've built on top of a spawn point, so it's a good spot for a first base.

I focused on building everything up before even bothering catching any little friends.

And soon it was time to start populating my base with the little creatures. It was around 10:30pm at this point and I needed to go to bed, but being that this is an always-online server I also needed to make sure my critters would survive the night.

And so, I couldn't go to bed until I had built up a berry farm and found some pets who would plant seeds, water the seeds, and harvest the berries, and transport them to the food box. Luckily that didn't take too long since I vaguely knew which low level creatures should be around and should be capable of those tasks!

Getting back into it today, I was roaming around with my trusty new firefox, marking down fast travel points and kidnapping various creatures from their home environments, and found two mammoths fighting one another. 😅 I stayed very far away lest they suddenly decided that I was a threat.

Soon I was the appropriate level to craft a three-arrow bow and I quickly got onto that. Just in time, too, as some wild man-eating pals started attacking my base.

Not that I do as much damage as my little fluffy friends, but whatever. xD I'm helping!

Even better, I could now start crafting some of the special gear for the little guys including the amazing harness that allows me to pluck the firefox off the ground and use him as a makeshift flamethrower. 😁

Thankfully the creature's weapons don't require ammo, only the player character's guns need ammo. I didn't craft them the first time around because I thought that wasn't the case, but, alas.

Now we have Creatures With Guns! Woo! Well, two of them anyway, and one of them AS a gun. 😆

Because I'm all about aesthetics, I also started decorating my house with the few decorations I currently know. You can learn to craft rugs and things later, but at the moment my "best" decorations are a few houseplants.

All in time!

This is only Base #1, too. Later on when I can build up a few more bases, I'll have different design plans for the different bases. This is another reason I can't be in a guild. I love base building. And my partner and friends just throw everything around all willy-nilly, as long as it fits and doesn't cause pathing issues.

That's just not me.

My current goal is to go through all the little mini-dungeons that show up as caves and gather as many ancient parts as I can find. In my previous game I was running out of those things so quickly because I progressed too fast. You need them to build the higher rarity weapons and armour and things, and you also need them to repair those things... and as I was repairing all the time, I was running out all the time.

This time around I'm going to get a little stockpile up first, and then start crafting the higher rarity things.

I also realised that I just hit level 15, so I grabbed myself a Chillet — one of the "alpha" monsters, of which there are several on each island. When I'm around level 20, I'm going to go for the first Syndicate Tower and try and defeat the boss for the first time!

I've pretty much reached where I was on my single player game. 😅 It goes a lot faster once you know what you're doing.

Now here's hoping the server doesn't bug out, being in early access and all, and I can continue my journey.

Until next time! 🐦🐢🐑

this game did what pokemon never dared, I hope nintendo doesn't end up suing the studio.

People keep saying that 😅 but Nintendo can't sue the studio or they would have when the game was first announced years ago.

The only thing it has in common is that you can capture monsters in balls and fight with them. Which is a genre, not a trademarked thing. Digimon, Coromon, Monster World, Monster Sanctuary... none of them would exist.

They could turn this into a battle royale game as well, it has a good potential.

They're planning on adding a pvp arena in the future. I have absolutely no interest in that though, I'm very much a PvE player.

It's amazing how 2 concepts like pokemon and weapons creates a very good idea hahaha, but I've seen many things about this game and all of them are crazy, even though the game is still in development and doesn't have all the content, with the one it has is more than enough to have fun for many hours.

By the way, good job with the house haha and now let the hunt begin. I mean the hunt for pal to enslave them and end up putting together a whole automated industry hahaha. Cheers!

Yeah, it's only just released into early access so there's going to be heaps more to come! I'm looking forward to many hours of fun! 😁 And, of course, getting my slaves I mean, creatures, working the lines, haha!
