Playing some PARKASAURUS!

avatar

I was supposed to be playing a bunch of games from an itch.io bundle acquired last year. They were downloaded, unzipped, ready to go... I had it all planned out.

But then, Steam sent me an email! Informing me of the Summer Sale!
And there's a game I've been interested in for a while now. And it was now on sale!
So, obviously I bought it and forgot all about my plans and lived in this new game instead!

Welcome to... Parkasaurus.

Or in my case, The Salty Saurus.

1.png

Parkasaurus is a dinosaur zoo-tycoon type of game that's a thousandfold better than the Jurassic Park one. Well, in my opinion.

I just couldn't get into Jurassic World Evolution... whilst the game was very pretty, the voice actors, trying to imitate the original actors in the movies, all sounded terrible and the game itself just wasn't enjoyable. Or intuitive. And seemed too... I don't know. There was too much stuff going on. For me, anyway. I can be pretty dumb sometimes.

Parkasaurus, however, I opened it at about 9 in the morning... and didn't shut it down until bedtime. There were a few times I had to alt-tab to quickly google something, since I didn't bother with the tutorial-campaign and jumped straight into building my own park, but it's fairly simple and once you get going — you get going!

2.png

You start off on a giant square of rubbish-strewn land, but thankfully you can just remove the entire lot of it AND in the process of deleting all those things, you get an extra couple of thousand moneys to begin your park with.

Very helpful.

Especially considering the size of the enclosures you need to make. My first mistake was making exhibits I thought were large, but were actually not, and two herd dinosaurs didn't have enough room.

3.png

So here is a 3400 square foot enclosure instead! Plenty of room for my herd dinosaurs to all be happy together, in a herd, how they should be.

You can put dinosaurs of different species into the same enclosure, but this one is for Stegasaurus only. I'm a purist. 😛

4.png

Now that my first enclosure is waiting for its first dinosaur, I need to quickly hire some schmucks to help me run the park.

I felt like splurging some extra cash, so got people who were level 2 in their respective fields.

The vets look after the dinosaurs, feed them, heal them, clean up their poop.
The janitors clean up around the park and repair things.
The scientists do science so I can research improvements for my park and study new dinosaur species.
And the security guard... ahhhhh, the security guard...

In my "test run" of the game, I didn't think I needed a security guard. It was early on. I doubted my dinosaurs would escape yet. And from the tooltip, it made it sound like security was only in the game to tranquilise escaped dinosaurs.

Turns out they also prevent theft from the office. So this time, on my "proper run" of the game, I hired some security right from the start.

5.png

With my employees ready for their first day, I allowed the first dinosaur to hatch and opened the park.

Little Atticus is a cute little purple stegasaurus who thinks I'm his parent.

So, like any good parent, I hopped into first person mode and hopped over the fence to get a better look at him.

6.png

So cute.

7.png

Unfortunately, little Atticus needs friends of his own.

Without hesitation, I summoned my employees and dragged them through a magical portal and started exploring. We needed to find a digsite where we could find more Stegasaurus remains and gather enough DNA to create a few more.

8.png

With the DNA found in a few skulls and vague footprints, we hurried back through the portal and into town and jammed the newfound goods into a chicken.

A chicken who promptly shoots an egg out of its cloaca, presumably with a baby dinosaur inside.

9.png

We race back to the park with this monstrous egg, surprised that anything so large could shoot itself out of a chicken, and place it into the Stegasaurus enclosure...

...and wait.

10.png

By nightfall there are TWO stegasauruses and they're both happy they have a friend!

11.png

The paying guests seem happy!

12.png

And two dinosaurs have doubled the money I get from the paying guests, so I'm happy! and come up with schemes to "acquire" more dinosaurs.

13.png

Also, it looks as though the local dentist is going to be happy too, haha. xD

The game is very enjoyable. I can see why it has an overwhelmingly positive score on Steam! I'm loving it and plan to jump straight back into it today. This time after I do important, responsible, adult things. 😅

This is my park at the moment. I have 4 stegasauruses in their enclosure now and I've just learnt how to discover velociraptors. They will be next.

Here's hoping they don't escape and attack my paying guests... 😏😆

You can find Parkasaurus on the Steam Store here

Until next time,

Thanks for stopping by! 😊🦕

Looks sweet. I had a lot of fun with Planet Zoo which seems to work in much the same way. I would spend hours decorating and detailing single enclosures. So chill and calming.

I have Planet Zoo but haven't really had a proper look at it yet, but that sounds great about the detailing of the enclosures! It's something that I love doing.

In this you get to detail the enclosures also, but you are a tiny bit restricted so that you can maintain a biome diversity in the enclosure. So depending on the size of the area, you need a certain amount of trees and rocks and shrubs. But other than that, you place them where you wish, decorate how you wish, raise and lower the terrain, add your own ponds and rivers and lakes, etc.

This style of games is too perfect, it reminded me a lot of a game that was about an aquarium, where we could decorate several showcases and fill them with the fish of our choice. Something very similar to Planet Zoo, or even this game.

There was an aquarium game in the sale that I saw as well, that looked a lot like this. Might be the same one! 🙂
