Slay the Spire, a rogue-like deckbuilder that I wrote about in August last year, is an incredibly challenging game. So incredibly challenging that I've only defeated the final boss at the end of Act III twice.

The first time was around about the time I first got the game...

...today was the second time.

I've been trying and trying to defeat the final boss ever since the latest update happened.

I forget when it was, it's been so long now, but a while back the game was updated to bring in a new playable character called The Watcher, and in order to unlock her you needed to defeat the Act III Final Boss.

Naturally, the moment the game updated I opened it and went to work on trying to defeat the last boss. I'd done it once! Surely I could do it again.

...surely...

YOU HAVE BEEN DEFEATED. VANQUISHED. DESECRATED.

I have played the game for a total of 57 hours... it's taken me 57 hours to defeat this last boss, just twice.

TWICE!

That's so insane. At least the game is fun so you don't feel quite as disheartened when you continuously lose, but dayum, so many hours just for two wins. Absolute madness!

But at last it happened -- I won!

AND THERE WAS MUCH REJOICING!

And so, I have at least unlocked The Watcher! And I must say that so far she seems to be a rather interesting character to play.

I've only done the one run with her so far, to get a feel for the playstyle, and she seems pretty enjoyable. My favourite character has become the poisonous The Silent so it's a very different playstyle to what I'm used to.

She has different stances, given to us by various cards; is able to retain certain cards so they don't get shuffled back into the deck after the round has finished; has a lot of 'follow-ups' that require you to use a certain card type first to utilise their full benefit; can discard unwanted cards in advance by scrying...

It's very different.

Very, very different... but I've spent so looonngggg trying to unlock her, I'm now going to proceed to play the hell out of her.
