Wandering Through the Wasteland — a Fallout 4 Tale

A few days ago, @thegoliath and I were talking about assorted game series' we would like to write about and ended up talking a fair bit about Fallout 4. After all, an open world Bethesda game is always a good choice for starting a new game series!

Then, it happened: he started playing it and started regaling me with tales of his (mis)adventures... and I decided I wanted to play, too. 😅 Now we're both doing a survival-mode Fallout 4 series and both of us are going to convince you all to go back a few years and play again too. Everyone shall be playing Fallout 4 and wandering the wasteland once more!

Yes. Even you.

Meet the illustrious Alexandria. Renowned lawyer, wife of a war hero, mother to a sweet babe. Future wasteland wanderer. 😬

Dolling herself up for her husband's ceremony in a few hours, she is as beautiful and comely as any soap opera star. A fitting figure to stand by a war hero's side as he delivers a moving speech to the masses.

I've carefully selected her starting attributes in accordance with the skill tree so I can get a few select abilities immediately upon levelling up: namely Black Widow, Lockpicking, Hacking, Sneak, and the one that allows you to walk and swim through water without getting radiation damage.

Oh no! Alexandria has gotten all dolled up for nothing. Luckily she and her family make it to Vault 111 just in time, just as the shockwave near engulfs them.

They had survived.

Unfortunately, not all of her family survived. Deep beneath the surface, entombed in cryogenic chambers, unknown assailants barged onto the scene and shot her husband, then stole her baby, all while she watched... helpless... before being re-frozen as the assailants departed.

Suddenly, she thawed out once more and forced herself out of the containment chamber.

She was free. Her husband was dead. Her baby was gone. And the vault, once pristine and full of personnel was now rusty, derelict and lifeless.

Encountering and killing a multitude of gigantic cockroaches, Alexandria stumbled out of the vault and back into her neighbourhood... only to discover that it was as ruined and awful as the inside of the vault.

Her family robot, Codsworth, was still there... tending to the ravaged gardens outside the dilapidated structure that had once been her home. It was then that she learned that it had been 210 years since the day the bombs fell, and that her baby, Shaun, was long lost and likely never to be found.

She and Codsworth investigated the neighbourhood and killed various vermin that had taken up shelter within the dwellings. With the buildings safe, Alexandria slowly investigated the remains and tried to find a semblance of normality in this strange, ruined world.

As normal as one could get eating fly and cockroach meat for dinner.

A couple of days passed by in a haze as Alexandria rummaged through the neighbourhood and rebuilt a small shelter to call her own. She built water pumps to keep hydrated, connected a generator to the shelter and had working electricity, and as a windstorm picked up outside she vowed to herself that she would find her son.

Those unknown assailants couldn't have gotten far, and when she caught up to them she would make them pay for her husband's murder and the audacity with which they had stolen her baby.

Vengeance would be her guide as she navigated this new world she found herself within.

But first she needed to find some more flies or cockroaches, or some other sustenance — she was starving.

Until next time! 🙃💣☢️
