What if I'm allergic to bees? ~ a five-minute #freewrite

"It's a bit bewildering, isn't it?"

"What's bewildering?" Lily asked, not bothering to look up from the mesmerising patterns swirling about her coffee. Sandy was a bit hyperbolic at times. Whatever she found bewildering was probably nothing of any real note.

"Oh, you know," Sandy sighed. Lily didn't look up but she could sense the wave of Sandy's arm as she threw it into the air. "Life is pretty bewildering in general ,that is, oh, and that goop that's dripping from the ceiling."

"It's probably ectoplasm," Lily sniggered, taking a sip of her creamy brew. Delicious caffeine. She definitely needed this today. "You know, ghosts?"

"I think it's honey."

Lily raised an eyebrow and at last deigned to peer up. A sticky golden substance seemed to coat the ceiling. Well, then. Maybe Sandy wasn't being a nutbag this morning.

"Strange," Lily shrugged then returned to her coffee. "There's probably bees up there."

"Bees!?" Sandy shrieked. "There's a bee hive in the ceiling?"

"Evidently."

"Bees!?"

Coffee. Sweet, refreshing, life-giving, coffee. Another sip. Warmth and joy in liquid form. Delicious.

"Yes, Sandy. Bees. Why else would there be honey dripping from the ceiling?"

"And this doesn't bother you?"

Lily shrugged again, draining the last drip of precious coffee from her mug. Maybe she'd make another one.

"They're in our house!" Sandy yelled. "What if I'm allergic to bees?"

"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," Lily said as she climbed up from her chair and headed over to the espresso machine. Pausing, she peered back up at the ceiling. "I wonder how honey'd go in coffee?"

I think my brain just went from bewildering to bee🐝wildering 😅 that in conjunction with my having given up caffeine, it just went places, haha!

I've never tried honey in coffee before, but I've been using that as a substitute for white/brown sugar in cooking at the moment and it's more expensive just as tasty. ☕️

It's really good for you so worth the price! I love honey. Not all honey mind you, I am picky when it comes to honey, and I buy several before I find one I like. For cooking or baking I prefer maple syrup to honey. Honey tastes funny when it's cooked, and someone told me it becomes kind of toxic if it is heated for too long. But yay you!

I tried maple syrup in a pudding that I made a couple of weeks ago!! and while it was nice enough... if I had my way, I would've put extra sugar in that thing, haha! Migrating to stevia soon for cooking purposes, once my shop restocks. 😐

ugh I do not like that stevia stuff. Tastes just like splenda to me. I eat sugar to be honest. I can't see what is so wrong with a bit of organic minimally processed cane sugar now and then. It's so easy to use and store.

I have no issue with sugar, per se 😅 I love the stuff. Chuck it in chinese cooking, mix a bit in with butter chicken, make a million cakes and brownies with it. But the calorie content is just too high for us at the moment when we're trying to cut waaaaaaay back.

Magnificently bee-wildering ... you pull us completely into the prompt as the ceiling drips and we try to figure out what is going on with these two!
