Pauline ruins in Northern Hungary - Gönc, Pauline Monastery and Church

(Edited)

Last weekend, my friends and I roamed the Zemplén Mountains, the ruins of Pauline monasteries and other special places. Near Gönc, we arrived in a wonderful, wooded area, where a little walk followed, across the creek, up the hill. We all experienced a magical miracle as we saw the sunlight filtering through the trees and the ruins of the monastery. It felt like our Blessed Mother had appeared on the scene. And yes, we felt her loving and caring gaze, her presence throughout.

We don't know too much about Gönc Monastery and Church. Its construction began in the late 14th century and was demolished in the 16th century, during the Reformation. Unfortunately, its condition has been steadily deteriorating ever since. Its spiritual "radiance" is still strong! The stones have fallen, but the spirituality cannot be destroyed.

Nature is gradually taking over. It’s a complete miracle that some walls are still standing. If you are there, be quiet and watch yourself and nature

As a farewell, we lit a candle and sang a prayer.

If you want to get there, be prepared that you have to walk a lot in the woods and you might even get lost. Therefore, only go in the company of a person who knows the place well. Poisonous snakes - vipers - also occur in the Zemplén Mountains, look at your feet! On some occasions, locals have already seen bears, it doesn’t hurt to be careful.

With lots of love from Kalemandra
