Beautiful Sunday: Studio for taking vintage photos, ถ่ายรูปย้อนยุค

This is my entry for #beautifulsunday created by @ace108. Recently there’s been a new trend of taking vintage photos at various old buildings in Thailand. People would dressed up according to the period of the setting which could be the 60s, 70s or 80s. I had seen teenagers changed into vintage clothes with hats and umbrellas before taking photos in front of an old house in Chinatown area. Others prefer to go back a few hundreds years by having photos taken in opulent traditional Thai costumes. I have noticed a photography studio offering people choices of traditional Thai costume photography at IconSiam.

This was the set up of the studio; being a mobile studio customers had no choice of the background setting. But the studio offered many choices of costumes and accessories. For this studio, the theme went back about eighty to a hundred years; we could say the period around King RamaVI reign. But I did not expect the studio to be totally accurate in all details as that would have cost too much for customers.

All the available accessories for the prop including waking canes, umbrellas, costume jewelry and a plastic gun!? Perhaps some people might want to dress up in old soldier uniform! There was a very popular novel made into films about a Japanese soldier falling in love with a local Thai lady during the Second World War; the Japanese force was occupying Thailand at that time. This love story was such a hit that all young girls were looking out for a handsome Japanese officer. The hero in this story died in protecting his beloved from the air raid, so the Thai lady never had a chance to tell him how much she loved him. She was forced into this marriage by her family who wanted special treatment from Japanese troops. She saw him as an enemy of the country so she could never love him. It was a sad ending as she finally realised that she did love him and that he was protecting the whole village as it was his home too. It was ‘love in wartime’ tragic story.

I was more attracted by the antique camera in front of this studio. This reminded me of my distant relatives photography studio where we had formal family photography sessions long time ago. I was so sad I couldn’t locate my relatives any more as I would love to use the dark room for black and white photography.

For people who would like high quality traditional Thai costumes photography could make appointment at various professional studios. I think people are yearning for the good old days and are willing to splash out for once in a lifetime’s professional photography sessions.

เราไปเดินเล่นที่ไอคอนสยามเดือนที่แล้ว เราไปเจอร้านถ่ายรูปย้อนยุคที่นั่นด้วย เป็นแบบสตูดิโอเคลื่อนที่ เขาก็เลยมีฉากหลังแบบเดียว และมีเสื้อผ้าเครื่องประดับต่างๆ สำหรับให้เลือก เราดูแล้วเครื่องแต่งกายเป็นประมาณสมัยรัชกาลที่6 แต่ที่แปลกคือ นอกจากพวกไม้เท้า หมวก เครื่องประดับแล้ว เราเห็นปืนพลาสติกด้วย เขาคงมีชุดทหารสมัยก่อนให้แต่งตัวด้วย เราคิดว่าทางร้านคงไม่ได้เน้นความตรงต่อรายละเอียดของยุคสมัย เพราะถ้าทุกอย่างเที่ยงตรงจริงๆ ราคาค่าถ่ายรูปคงจะสูงลิ่วจนไม่มีลูกค้าอย่างแน่นอน

สิ่งที่ทำให้เราสนใจมากคือ กล้องโบราณที่เขาวางไว้หนส้มร้าน มันดูเก่ามาก เฟืองทองเหลืองตัวใหญ่มาก แสดงว่ากล้องตัวนี้หนักมาก เราไม่กล้าจับเล่นเลย เรากลัวมันจะหลุดคามือเรา เราดีใจที่เขายอมให้เราถ่ายรูปไว้ดูหลายภาพ นี่ทำให้เราคิดถึงญาติห่างมากที่เราไม่ได้เจอมานานมาก เขามีห้องถ่ายรูปอย่างดี เราเคยไปเที่ยวตอนเด็กๆและ เคยบอกว่าเราจะไปเรียนถ่ายรูปด้วยในอนาคต พอเรากลับจากเมืองนอก บรรดาญาติก็ย้ายบ้านไปไหนกันหมดแล้ว เราเสียใจและเสียดายที่ พวกเราขาดการติดต่อไปนานหลายปี เราคิเว่าจะไปเรียนล้างอัดรูปขาวดำกับทางญาติของเรา ตอนนี้ทุกคนห็อายุมากและคงย้ายไปอยู่บ้านนอกเมืองกันเงียบๆในวัยไม่ทำงานแล้ว เราคิดว่าคนไทยกำลังหวนคิดถึงวันวานที่ดีๆในอดีต อยากกลับไปใช้ชีวิตเรียบง่ายและสงบแบบคนสมัยก่อน จึงทำให้เกิดกระแสถ่ายภาพและแต่งกายย้อนกลับไปในอดีตกันมาก จนมีสตูดิโอสำหรับถ่ายภาพไทยย้อนยุคมากมายในปัจจุบัน เราคิดว่าเราคงไม่มีเวลาสำหรับเรื่องเล่นแบบนี้ แต่ชอบดูภาพสวยๆที่สดใสและมีความหวังในอนาคตมาก เราได้พลังดีๆจากภาพเหล้านี้เสมอ
