Caturday: kittens giving people a headache.

One fine afternoon, I went to feed those stray cats at the temple by the river. I did my rounds at opposite corners of the temple to make sure that some weaker cats would not go hungry. These cats were too timid to go for cat food at the skinny monk’s quarter as there were always aggressive cats there. These weaker cats tended to eat once or twice a week though some would go hungry the whole week. These were true pacifist cats, they just preferred to staying quietly in their hiding places.

It pained me seeing these cats getting thinner and weaker little by little. So, I tried to give them extra cat food and watched them finishing their food. Sometimes other cats would try to chase away these skinny cats so I had to stay around for a while. I would go to feed stray cats at the thin monk’s place before I returned home. These cats were fed daily by this monk so they looked better than the rest of the cats in the temple.

On my way there, I saw a car stopped in an awkward place in the car park. The driver was a nice young man who seemed to be looking under his car. Then I heard him calling out for some cats. It turned out that a mother cat has been raising three kittens in the bush behind the car park. This man’s car was parked beside the bush. So, the three kittens were frightened by him and went into hiding inside the spaces in his car engine section. He stopped his car as soon as he heard some kittens’ meowing. The mother cat was standing near his car, desperate for her kittens.

But as soon as the driver opened the bonnet of his car, he could see small kittens moving inside. Some novices walked by to see what was wrong with the car. The driver asked these novices to help with catching the kittens so that he could go back home, it was getting dark by seven o’ clock. They splashed bottle water to chase those kittens outside the car. But they were very resilient and held out tightly. One novice asked me for some cat food to lure the kittens. Looking at their effort, I could tell that they wouldn’t be able to get those kittens to leave the hiding places. They were making too much noises and frantic in their actions.

I told the mother cat to get her kittens out but she was too frightened by those people around the car. After about an hour, the driver gave up and asked the novices to help pushing his car into the parking slot properly. He decided to leave his car at the temple for the night hoping that all the kittens would be gone by the following day. When the place has become quiet, I started to lure these kittens with cat food in small trays. I guessed they would be quite hungry and I brought the mother cat by the car. As soon as they could smell the food and see their mother.

The kittens came out of their hiding places to eat cat food and be with their mother. I could pick them up, one by one, and placed them far away from that car. They were completely wet with bottle water so I asked the mother cat to gloom her kittens. It’s amazing how they came out within five minutes after the place became caking and quiet. I walked around trying to find the driver as he could drive his car back home instead of taking a taxi. But he disappeared too fast so he would have to be back again.

I was glad those timid kittens were safely united with the mother cat. I advised the mother cat to keep her kittens away from cars as it’s very dangerous. My next door neighbour discovered a Siamese kitten hiding inside her car after she cane back from her shopping. So, she kept the kitten and became very attached to her. Unfortunately, the kitten went over the wall into another house with German guard dogs; so the poor kitten was bitten to death by very fierce dogs. My neighbour was very upset for quite some time. I told the other temple cats to beware of playing around cars and they were quite horrified of what had happened. It would be so nice if all car drivers were as considerate and caring towards stray cats as that young driver who had to leave his car for the sake of those kittens.

Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.

Stay strong and cheerful.

Once you feed a cat, they will always come back with friends or follow you home

Yah. Luckily the kittens came out very quickly. The mother cat was very timid and nervous.

Thanks. Those kittens are now four weeks old and they all disappeared. Some staff told me that someone came to take all the kittens away.

I'm very happy that this driver noticed the kittens before he started driving, I can only imagine the horror what happened otherwise. Probably these people were not cat people because if they'd listened to your advice, the problem would be solved much faster.

Thank you for staying around and help getting them safe, they seem very thankful <3
