Thai photo contest: sky by the river and the flow of life, ท้องฟ้าริมน้ำกับชีวิต

This is my entry for #thaiphotocontest110 hosted by @thaiteam. In the past, I always wanted to have a house by the sea. I loved to hear the sound of waves in the night and to swim in the sea during sunset. But I couldn’t remember when I started to think about building a house and have a small farm. As I grew older, the reality and dynamics of international political and financial situations gave me a rude awakening. I began to do more readings on some complicated topics which would have important impact on my life and survival.

For safety reason, having a house by the sea became impractical and we couldn’t follow self-sufficiency lifestyle in the long run. It began with a wish to have a peaceful and simple life far away from big cities. But it was a big step and most of my friends and families thought I was just too imaginative. Life would be much harder in rural area and successful career with high salaries would be very hard to find. But I wasn’t afraid of difficulties as I was still young and adventurous; I thought the right things would turn up for me. I was afraid of taking the wrong turning in my life so I would wish that of what I had decided wasn’t meant for my destiny, divine power would made it unsuccessful or obstruct its path with some signs.

Luckily, the angels seemed to be looking after me and prevented me from buying land in two provinces. I had even decline the offer of free land at the last minute despite the fact that the house plan had been recently finished and all was set for the construction. Something happened inside my mind to make me feel very troublesome that day long time ago. So, I had to suddenly do my meditation and praying for some divine answer. Once I got my answer, I made a long distance call to cancel the construction project. The owner of the land could hardly believe what had happened. I had turned down a piece of free land on a most sought after mountainous area. Nowadays, only exclusive five-star resorts could be found dotted among tree tops. My friend’s brother had been very successful in planting a forest on his mountainous plot of land. There was a natural stream on his land and there was a cave at the other side of the mountain.

I had two more offers from other friends to settle down on their land. But I knew that my ‘place’ had not been discovered yet so I had to be patiently waiting for the right timing when things would fall into their proper places. I felt very lonely and abandoned for years as nothing right seemed to be happening towards my destiny. I was almost hopeless and given up my idealistic project for self-sufficiency. Then, one day I was persuaded to visit an old friend up north. As soon as I was walking along the riverfront in the small town, I knew that this place could be what I was trying to discover. After a few visits, I realised that I would like to live on a small farm with a big garden in this small town.

After a few years and lots of prayers, I found the land that had been waiting for me for a long time. The owner of the land has been trying to sell his land several times; but the buyers seemed to change their mind at the last minute. So, he didn’t pay much attention to me as he thought I was just like other buyers. He couldn’t quite believe that I agreed to buy his land but I needed dome time to set up all the new bank accounts to process the loans and money transfer from the big city. He called my friend to ask whether I was seriously buying the land.

I quite like this guy though I could see that he was quite an experienced businessman with connections in town and across the border in Laos. I won his trust with my honesty and transparency; we became friends and I visited his house to get to know his wife and kids. By my psychic ability and my knowledge of Feng-Shui, I could tell that he was in some kind of financial difficulty. Later, I found out that he was cheated by his business partner in Laos. I did advise him to change some placement of the office buildings and the colour of the roof tiles. He made the classic text book’s Feng-Shui mistake which would bring about financial problems.

So many things happened in between the good times and testing times so we lost touch. I wished him well but he had too much self-confidence to listen time my suggestions. I was afraid he would had to get a divorce later as his wife cane from a very rich and powerful family line. The kids were exceptionally clever and very nice; I saw so much sorrow in his wife’s eyes. How some people’s lives could become unexpectedly unfortunate! Rich and successful people couldn’t cope with failure and disappointment too well. I slowly took one step at a time in following my long cherished dream of living and growing trees and our food as much as possible. We have come almost half way to being self-sufficiency. There’s still a lot for me to learn and lots more work on the house and garden. Hopefully we would be able to get the water pumping system and other repair projects underway by the end of the month. Who would have thought that I could be living simply in the far away countryside; life never ceased to surprise me with all its changing streams.

สมัยก่อนเราคิดว่าสักวันหนึ่ง เราจะมีบ้านอยู่ริมทะเล เราชอบไปเที่ยวทะเลทุกเดือน เรากับเพื่อนแชร์บังกาโลริมทะเลกับพวกฝรั่ง เป็นไทม์แชร์ แต่ก็แปลกดี หลายปีต่อมาเราก็เบนเข็มความคิดไปเป็น การหาที่อยู่ริมแม่น้ำแทน ทั้งนี้คงเป็นเพราะเราโตทสงความคิดมากขึ้นและเราอ่านติดตามข่าวสาร ด้านการเมืองระหว่างประเทศและปัญหาการเงิน ตลอดจนเรื่องน่าสนใจเกี่ยวกับกลุ่มคนที่มีอำนาจกำหนดทิศทาง ความเป็นไปในโลก และปัญหาความเปลี่ยนแปลงของธรรมชาติ เราตระหนักว่าอนาคตมีแต่ความไม่แน่นอน และภัยธรรมชาติด้วย เพื่อความปลอดภัยเราจึงคิดว่าการอยู่ใกล้ทะเลต่อไปในอนาคต จะประสบปัญหาภัยธรรมชาติชาติมากมาย

เราก็คิดว่าสักวันเราต้องหาที่แปลงเล็กๆ สำหรับอยู่อย่างเศรษฐกิจพอเพียง เราก็ใช้เวลาหลายปีในการพูดคุยกับเพื่อนเกี่ยวกับ ความจำเป็นที่ทุกคนต้องคิดหาที่ปลอดภัยสำหรับอนาคตและบั้นปลายชีวิต เพื่อนๆไม่คิดแบบเราเลย เขาคิดว่าชีวิตในต่างจังหวัดจะลำบาก และไม่สะดวกสบายเหมือนในเมืองใหญ่ และการทำมาหากินจะลำบาก จะหางานดีๆที่มีเงินเดือนสูงๆยากมาก ความก้าวหน้าทางการงานก็มีน้อยมาก เรามีความเชื่อว่าถ้าสิ่งที่เราคิดอยากจะทำเป็นชะตาชีวิตของเราแล้ว พรหมลิขิตก็จะช่วยให้ทุกอย่างเกิดขึ้นมาผลักดันให้เราไปให้ถูกทางเอง แล้ววันหนึ่งเพื่อนเก่าที่ไม่ได้เจอกันนาน ชวนเราไปเที่ยวบ้านเขาที่ต่างจังหวัด

เราไปถึงที่นั่นก็ชอบในความสงบ และเรียบง่ายของชีวิตที่นั่น. พอเราไปเดินเล่นริมแม่น้ำ เราจึงรู้ว่าที่นั่นคือที่ที่เรารอคอยมานานแล้ว เรากลับไปเที่ยวอีกหลายครั้ง จนเรามั่นใจว่าเราชอบที่นั่นมาก และอยากใช้ชีวิตแบบพอเพียงใกล้กับธรรมชาติ เพื่อนบางคนก็ชวนเราไปอยู่กับเขา เราไปดูที่ในต่างจังหวัดอีกสองสามแห่ง เราลองไปสำรวจมาสองแห่ง และเกือบจะได้สร้างบ้านที่ทางเหนือ เพื่อนแบ่งที่ให้สร้างบ้านบนที่เกือบร้อยไร่ แต่เราก็เปลี่ยนใจในนาทีสุดท้าย เราได้รับสัญญาณว่าไม่ใช่ที่ของเราจากการทำสมาธิ เพื่อนอปลกในมาก เพราะเรามีแบบบ้านเรียบร้อยแล้ว เวลาผ่านไปจนเราได้มาเจอที่ใกล้แม่น้ำ เราจึงรู้ว่าที่แห่งนั้นคอยเรามานานแล้ว เราจึงตัดสินใจซื้อโดยเร็ว คนขายไม่ทันตั้งตัว เพราะเขาไม่คิดว่าเราจะเอาจริง เราใช้เวลาจัดการเรื่องธนาคารและการกู้เงินมาซื้อที่ดินสักพัก พรหมลิขิตได้ช่วยให้ทุกอย่างเป็นไปอย่างราบรื่น เวลาผ่านไปอีก จนเรามีบ้านและสวนในบริเวณบ้าน เราต้องเรียนรู้เรื่องราต่างๆมากมาย และต้องคิดแก้ปัญหาเรื่องสิ่งก่อสร้างอีกด้วย นี่เราพยายามให้ช่างมาช่วยเดินปั้มน้ำใหม่ เพื่อจ่ายนํ้าในฤดูแล้ง และเปลี่ยนรางน้ำฝนใหม่ด้วย ตลอดจนทำที่เก็บใบไม้ไว้ทำปุ๋ยหมักเองด้วย ใครจะคิดว่าเราจะมาคิดทำเรื่องเหล่านี้ได้ ชีวิตเปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามกาลเวลาจริงๆ
