Train journey along the countryside.

After the lockdown was lifted, trains have started to operate once again so I could plan my travel up to the north-east of the country. But these trains could operate only during daytime as the curfew has not been lifted yet. Only after two weeks later did the government decide to end the useless curfew altogether. At first I was quite reluctant to take the daytime train as i was so used to taking the sleeper-train. I thought it was more sensible to make the best of hours on the train by catching up with my sleep.

After traveling on the daytime train twice, I found myself getting used to the new routine. Though I couldn’t get proper sleep, I could took some short nap along the way. The scenery along the way, which was not possible to see during the night, cane to me as a nice surprise. I never realised that there is still so much space in the countryside; I thought the countryside has been overly developed for years. It was very nice to see mountains, green fields, and part of the dam near the nature reserve.

On the other hand, I could see stark changes to some big cities in the north-east area; it’s amazing to see new train stations, high rise buildings and condominiums in these places. I would have thought that people in the countryside would rather prefer living in houses with lots of garden space. These people have been conditioned by their lifestyle of having open space where shouting and loud noises have been the norm. They would have to shout as the spacious living style made it impossible for a person at the back of the house to hear a.soft calling. Since I have been living in the countryside, I often have to shout for my cats and gardener.

So, when these people moved to small apartments or townhouses with no garden. The common problems would be the level of noises which became too loud for a crowded environment. I also have to become mindful when switching from countryside lifestyle to city lifestyle. People in my countryside area often laughed very loudly and talked in loud voices as they were so used to chatting across their gardens. I could not imagine the reactions of city people in shopping malls if these friends of mine were there chatting as a group! So, there’s a big cultural gap between city dwellers and people in the countryside.

I am being converted to daytime traveling by trains as the scenery of beautiful blue sky and infinite horizon over the lake seemed to perk me up every time. Also, the people who travel on this train were a completely different crowd from those in the night trains. This might be because the fares on daytime train is much cheaper as these trains are quite old and noisy. The sleeper trains are quite new, faster and have modern facilities. The arrival and departure times are also different. It took me some time to get used to these trains and I could see the benefits of taking the old and cheaper train.

Traveling on these trains have taught me a lot in terms of being more observant and patient including the development of my social and negotiating skills. You would encounter all kinds of people on the trains so traveling is also a learning process for me. I have met a famous medium, plain cloth officers, foreign mafia gangs, foreign traffickers, freelance intelligence agent, retired marine officer including ordinary villagers. So, my train journey could be too exciting sometimes. I always found it strange that I would encounter these strangers during my train journey. Perhaps that was part of my education about the real world so I would be more prepared when the future suddenly become very uncertain

Such beautiful views from the train, I understand your preference for night trains so you can sleep and then enjoy the destination I would probably do the same, but day trains do allow you to enjoy the scenery along the way

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
