Wednesday Walk: looking for Chinese calendar and musing on coronavirus.

(Edited)

This is my late #wednesdaywalk along Yaowarad road in Chinatown to look for a new Chinese calendar for next year. I was in quite a panic as it just dawn on me that it’s almost January next year. I hadn’t bought my Chinese calendar with basic but essential astrological information on each day and overall astrological predictions for the new year but this is all printed in Chinese language. So, I could only guess at what the calendar is saying. Usually, I would have done a research of some essential Chinese astrological prediction before the end of the year. This is like having some kind of macro weather forecast for the new year. So, the first thing was to get the Chinese calendar in Chinatown.

The day was bright and warm with blue sky and lots of energy in the air. I took the bus to Yaowarad road as soon as the bus turned into the road I could see traffic jam and more people walking along the footpath. So, I got off the bus to walk around and observe how the shops and restaurants were doing. I was quite glad to see more customers in most eateries as long the road. The vendors looked very busy and energised. Luckily they didn’t mind me taking photos.

There was a long queue of customers waiting for grilled seafood sticks! There were piles of squids on sticks and mixed seafood sticks looking like a small mountain of white squids. The sauce looked too spicy for me but most people like them hot and spicy! Being half-vegetarian, I could only take photos.

The gold price has been swinging up recently so I expected people flocking to gold shops to sell their gold jewelry. But it seemed most gold shops were quite empty of customers. My friend once toke me that many skillful goldsmiths had become unemployed as gold jewelries had become too expensive for most people. I actually knew a very skillful gold jeweler who had to become a security guard to make his living! I guess there won’t be many people buying gold jewelry in ten years’ time; these gold shops would disappear through time.

I did advise an old friend whose family has owned gold shops over eighty years to do some business involving blockchain. He did have some friends in one local crypto exchange business. But I had no idea his progress on the matter; most middle aged Thai businessmen were very wary of crypto. My dentist even told me that Bitcoin could not become real money as he couldn’t touch it; how could he trust intangible money! I was dumbfounded as he’s one of the well known and sharpest teacher-dentists.

Walking around Yaowarad road made me feeling very concerned with its future transformation and survival. I kept telling all my friends to invest in crypto and invent new business using blockchain. So far, only big companies are hiring blockchain developers and programmers. The rich will get even richer because of blockchain; just think about how much overheads and staff they could reduce!

This year there were fewer elderly vendors selling Chinese calendars. Chinatown made it possible for uneducated old generation of Chinese immigrants to make some living selling Chinese souvenirs, red envelops and calendars. I came to give some support to these elderly vendors every year. They reminded me of my old grandmother. I tended to have soft spots for stray cats and old people. These old people shouldn’t be working hard in their old age because they need to make a living.

img_4663.jpg

Luckily these elderly vendors were still very sharp and lively with the curiosity for political gossips. The old gentleman was very curious about some palace gossips and politicians’ corruption. So, I explained to him about the fake palace gossips and told him more facts about corruptions around drug business. He was quite shocked to know that fully vaxxed became super-spreaders and a large number of nurses became incapacitated. There was a big recruitment of 20,000 nursing positions two months ago! It’s very rare to have a recruitment of twenty nursing positions in a year, due to budget limitation, regulations and non-available positions. They would have to wait for nursing staff to retire, die, resign or get fired so that new nurses could be recruited! That was unfavorable sign of hidden information from the public.

The calendar vendor was very kind and polite, he was very happy to be my photography model. Lots of people have been wearing double masks hoping that they would filter out the coronavirus completely. So, I had to explain to some willing listener that masks were useless as protection against coronavirus as the mask was designed to filter only up to 0.5 micron size of particles while the new coronavirus was as tiny as 0.1 micron. Most people were puzzled and confused by my stance that masks were the tools of making people live in fear. and a means for controlling people’s behaviour. We have well tried and proven as very effective in fighting against this coronavirus (Fah Talai Jone). Thousands of people were cured within five days of virus infection and we take this herbal medicine almost everyday to boost the body immune system. This has been used for years against cold and influenza, it’s our traditional Thai medicine or herbal But the cost is very cheap so this medicine couldn’t sold with a premium or commission.

To my surprise, this herbal capsules also worked against the effects of getting shedding particles or spike proteins from fully vaxxed people such as department stores’ vendors and passengers on the trains. But to be on the safe side, I also take ivermectin once or twice a week depending on how much and how long I was exposed to shedding particles.

So far I have been giving this herbal medicine to four people and sharing invermectin with six people. Luckily all the jabbed people started feeling much better and testing of magnetism (by sticking a mobile phone on the vaxxed spot on the arm) seemed to show sign that the strength of magnetism began to wear off. However, the immune system would never be the same so we have to continue to monitor the long term effect on their health. So, life could never be as simple and care free as two years ago. But we have the will to survive and make our best efforts to stay healthy and sane.

I bought three Chinese calendars instead of two as I believe in having a backup. This habit of having backups had made me becoming like a collector of odd objects and tools. I hope these would become useful one day. The old buildings around Yaowarad road looked rather lonely and insecured as if they also had no idea what would happen to them in the near future. I felt compelled to take these photos to record my experience of the day. These old buildings reminded me of my childhood and Chinese grandmother who used to bring me along to see Chinese opera in one of the theaters along this road. The nostalgic memories of Chinese people shouting in various Chinese dialects, the smell of cooked food and sounds of vendors hawking their goods made me missing the good old days more than before. I never knew I had been very lucky to be the only grandchild being brought up by Chinese relatives. These experiences have become so relevant and helpful in making me understand our society and it’s peoples more deeply.

Will enter the new years and Chinese years, there are many sellers of calenders, and various merchandise for sale. Like a seller in front of a shop, I've been to Asian countries such as Thailand very crowded in afternoon until the evening before the Corona Pandemic. The atmosphere is funy likes to post, thank you.

Thanks so much for your kind comment. The Chinese representatives had asked for a big sample of this herbal medicine last year! Now a company has imported new Chinese medicine for taking when having covid symptoms! People found out it contains our herbal medicine plus other Chinese herbs! They are much more expensive too! LoL
