Attention - DON'T Fall for this New SCAM!

avatar

We always need to remember that whatever we do to keep ourselves safe from fraud, chances are that scammers will always be at least one step ahead of us all.

I saw this a few minutes ago on Facebook and decided to issue a warning to all of you because this may be really dangerous.

But first, at test for you:
You visit a social media channel, you scroll and suddenly you see a verified account that has a very well-known name (i.e. google, meta, Microsoft etc) posting about a brand new program or platform - providing a link for everyone to access!

Do you click or not?

More specifically: A Google-verified page in Facebook (which has more than 1 million followers) is offering you exclusive access to BARD - the new AI tool by Google!

So? It does seem plausible and it certainly seems legit. It is google .. it does have the blue tick .. and if you visit the facebook page - you will see it has over 1.8 million followers

REMEMBER: Verify before TRUSTING. Always.

This is a S C A M

And I will prove it to you.

Why do I believe it is a scam?

  1. I dont think that google would ever use the main rival's name - even if it is to defame them.
  2. Why would they post a link to a .rar file ? Suspicious..
  3. A trello link? Really?
  4. Would they really need to 'sponsor' their post? Have you ever seen a google ad in facebook?
  5. There are hundreds of comments, but I cannot see any of them. Why?

Let's visit the actually Facebook page

They look like google but they sure aren't google

If you go look at the photos/post posted you can understand it immediately

Let's move over to their Page transparency section ... That will reveal everything!

We see that this page was created in 2011 and has changed their name 3 times.

How is it possible for Facebook to allow this? How is it possible to allow such a popular page to change its name to a copyrighted name and to scam people?

This is something that would never happen to a decentralized network as hive.

When you go to their ad page, you see that they have ads running at least since the 20th of March

image.png

I reported the page, but I doubt that it will make any difference.

And of course, as you already may know .. this could never - ever happen in Hive?
Can you tell me why?

So, would you fall for it?
What else can we do to prevent people from falling for it?
Have you used BARD? In Greece where I live it is not available yet.

Thank you for visiting!
