A walk through the Praga North district in Warsaw / Spacer po warszawskiej dzielnicy Praga Północ

Praga North is a district in Warsaw on the right side of the Vistula River. Its supporters like the fact that there are many pre-war tenement houses here, it has retained its historical character. It is also a district considered quite dangerous. I came here yesterday and went for a walk on Targowa Street. See what it looks like.

Praga Północ to dzielnica Warszawy po prawej stronie Wisły. Jej zwolennikom podoba się to, że znajduje się tu wiele przedwojennych kamienic, zachowała swój historyczny charakter. Jest to jednocześnie dzielnica uznawana za dość niebezpieczną. Przyjechałam tu wczoraj i wybrałam się na spacer po ulicy Targowej. Zobaczcie, jak wygląda.

I liked this tenement house the most. It is an Art Nouveau tenement house by Izrael Galberg. It has very nice details on the facade, incl. flower stalks waving or flower garlands. Besides, I like the shape of the building, rounded in many places.

Najbardziej spodobała mi się ta kamienica. To secesyjna kamienica Izraela Galberga. Ma bardzo fajne detale na fasadzie, m.in. łodygi kwiatów, które falują czy girlandy kwiatów. Poza tym podoba mi się zaokrąglona w wielu miejscach forma budynku.

This townhouse has a great turret. The apartments below have rounded balconies. I like such architectural inserts. Instead of the usual square interiors, circular walls in the room.

Ta kamienica ma świetną wieżyczkę. Mieszkania, które znajdują się poniżej posiadają zaokrąglone balkony. Podobają mi się takie wstawki architektoniczne. Zamiast zwykłych kwadratowych wnętrz, koliste ściany w pomieszczeniu.

This is an example of Praga North graffiti. Street art is very present there. There are also a lot of murals.

What I like about Praga Północ is that you can go back a bit in time. Many shops look as if no one has changed anything in them for years, you can remember how you used to shop in the past - at local markets. And these markets have the same atmosphere as they used to be. If someone likes such flashbacks, he or she may like it here.

Na Pradze Północ podoba mi się to, że można się jakby trochę cofnąć w czasie. Wiele sklepów wygląda tak, jakby nikt nic w nich nie zmieniał od lat, można sobie przypomnieć, jak kiedyś się robiło zakupy - na miejscowych targowiskach. I te targowiska mają klimat taki jak kiedyś. Jeśli ktoś lubi takie retrospekcje, może mu się tu spodobać.

When it comes to people, nothing bad has ever happened to me here, and I have been to Praga North a few times after dark, but you know how everywhere - it's worth being careful.

Jeśli chodzi o ludzi, nigdy nie spotkało mnie tu nic złego, a kilka razy zdarzyło mi się być na Pradze Północ po zmroku, ale wiadomo, jak wszędzie - warto uważać.
