Japanese cuisine pleasantly surprised me once again 😋 Sanuki udon, vegetables, and shrimps in crispy tempura 🇯🇵 / Udon i Ebi (warzywa i krewetki w tempurze) z japońskiej restauracji

On cold autumn days I like to warm up with soup. Today I was in the center of Warsaw during the day and decided to visit the Japanese restaurant Uki Uki, which serves delicious ramens and udons. I was wondering for a moment what to choose and decided on Sanuki udon, which is a classic bonito fish broth with thick noodles. At Uki Uki, pasta is made on site. The second part of the restaurant's name is "Japanese Macron Factory".

W zimne jesienne dni bardzo lubię rozgrzać się zupą. Byłam dzisiaj w ciągu dnia w centrum Warszawy i postanowiłam zajrzeć do japońskiej restauracji Uki Uki, która serwuje pyszne rameny i udony. Zastanawiałam się przez chwilę co wybrać i zdecydowałam się na Sanuki udon, czyli klasyczny bulion rybny bonito z grubym makaronem. W Uki Uki makarony przyrządzane są na miejscu. Druga część nazwy restauracji to "fabryka japońskiego makronu".

Uki Uki has three udons to choose from: Kama-agae, Sanuki and Zaru. Zaru is a cold udon, so I rejected his choice right away. I was wondering about Kama-agae and Sanuki. Ultimately, it turned out that udon Kama-agae is not a ready-made soup, but it is made independently, in a restaurant, from the ingredients obtained.

W Uki Uki mamy do wyboru trzy udony: Kama-agae, Sanuki i Zaru. Zaru jest udonem na zimno, więc od razu odrzuciłam jego wybór. Zastanawiałam się nad Kama-agae i Sanuki. Ostatecznie okazało się, że udon Kama-agae nie jest gotową zupą, ale robi się ją samodzielnie, w restauaracji, z otrzymanych składników.

So I was left with Sanuka's udon. I also got finely chopped chives and ginger and sesame seeds with it.

Został mi zatem udon Sanuki. Dostałam też do niego drobno posiekany szczypiorek i imbir oraz ziarna sezamu.

When I started eating udon, I knew I had made the right choice. It tasted a bit like miso soup and thick noodles. A wonderful mix.

Gdy zaczęłam jeść udon wiedziałam, że dobrze wybrałam. W smaku przypominał mi trochę zupę miso, a do tego gruby makaron. Cudowna mieszanka.

The vegetables in tempura included sweet potato, lotus root and shiitake mushroom, zucchini. There were also two shrimp in the basket

W skład warzyw w tempurze wchodził batat, korzeń lotosu i grzyb shitake, cukinia. W koszyku znajdowały się też dwie krewetki.

Uki Uki is located in the very center of Warsaw. Already standing in front of the entrance you can feel the atmosphere of this restaurant. Through the fogged window you can see the cook cooking udon. There are a lot of people inside.

Uki Uki mieści się w ścisłym centrum Warszawy. Już stojąc przed wejściem można poczuć klimat tej restauracji. Przez zaparowaną szybę widać kucharkę przegotowującą udon. W środku jest dużo ludzi.

But inside the restaurant is very cozy. You can see a lot of Japanese accents in the form of books, sculptures and paintings. Plastic walls between the tables remained from the times of the pandemic.

Za to w środku restauracji jest bardzo przytulnie. Widać dużo japońskich akcentów, w postaci książek, rzeźb i malunków. Z czasów pandemii koronawirusa pozostały plastikowe ścianki między stolikami.

In addition to the soup, I had vegetables and prawns in tempura to eat. I dipped them in soy sauce and they tasted delicious. The sweet potato was the best.

Oprócz zupy miałam jeszcze do zjedzenia warzywa i krewetki w tempurze. Maczałam je w sosie sojowym i smakowały przepysznie. Najlepszy był słodkawy batat.

This is what the restaurant menu looks like. For each dish, the ingredients used in it are marked - e.g. the type of meat, shiitake mushrooms, as well as the spiciness of the dish. The menu includes photos of the dishes and their detailed descriptions. It was very nicely compiled.

Tak wygląda menu restauracji. Przy każdym daniu mamy zaznaczone użyte w nim składniki - np. rodzaj mięsa, grzyby shitake, a także pikantność dania. Menu zawiera zdjęcia potraw i dokładne ich opisy. Zostało bardzo fajnie opracowane.

I consider my spontaneous trip to a Japanese restaurant to be very successful. I ate what I used to eat during my stay in Japan and it brought back nice, culinary memories.

Moje spontaniczne wyjście do japońskiej restauracji uważam za bardzo udane. Jadłam to, co podczas pobytu w Japonii i wróciły mi miłe, kulinarne wspomnienia.
